Facebook Places works on my Storm2 on Verizon, but only after I changed permission on Location Data from Prompt to Allow.

Bold 9650 on Verizon, Places now works fine. Did not work for several days, tried everything, finally updated my PRL on Saturday and low and behold, Places starting working! Go figure.

I've read on several sites, that Verizon disables access to GPS functionality, so that they can force subscribers to use their own pay-for GPS services. Yet another reason I'll do without a phone before I use Verizon.

While they used to do that, they stopped doing it on new models beginning several years ago (the original Storm was the first, i believe). Verizon does not lock down the GPS on any BlackBerry (or Android) you get from them today.

ok, so another thread suggested updating PRL (calling *228 and choosing option 2) -- after roaming capabilities were updated, FB places worked no problem

...which leads me to believe that FB is finding your location via cell tower triangulation vice GPS.

FB places works on my Storm 9530.

And no, Verizon does not lockdown GPS. GPS works fine on my FB, Google Maps, and Berryweather.
