Recently heard about the QuickPull application. What are the advantages of QuickPull over Alt + Right Shift + Delete?
Quickpull is only necessary if you want to auto schedule device resets. Otherwise you don't really need it.
Let's see, an app to simulate a battery pull so you can free up memory (while
consuming memory on it's own) or a free keystroke option that does the same
without the memory footprint.
Seems a no brainer to me. Ditch QuickPull.
And while papped is correct, it is almost ALWAYS unnecessary to
schedule a battery pull.
Just a reminder, though, that Alt-Shift-Del is a "soft reset". You can simulate a battery pull/"hard" reset by doing Alt-Shift-Del again while the black "Blackberry" loading screen is showing!
Unless someone has an OtterBox or something, I see no reason why not to just pull the battery. It takes the same amount of time to boot up, and rather than "simulating" anything, it actually gives the capacitors and such time to fully discharge. Actually refreshing the device.
But I have to agree that I really don't see a need for this unless an application hangs, after installation/deletion of an application, or there is a problem with an app. Constant reboots for no apparent reason other than to just do it, doesn't make sense to me. Especially with newer devices. IMO.
Wrong!! All you accomplish by doing this is soft resetting the device twice.
Nothing at all will be gained by doing this.
But then, if you have an old 8100 Pearl like me, that keystroke combination does absolutely nothing. Probably because there is no dedicated "right-shift". Only a single "shift" key (which does happen to be to the right of center).

Couldn't have put it better myself!!!
Scheduled resets are difficult (at best) if you have your BB password enabled. The app will not auto perform the reset while the unit is locked so it is just as easy to do a manual Alt-Shift-Del or a battery pull.
I also perform considerably less resets with my Bold 9650 as it just does not lose memory like my Tour did.
I've said it 1000 times before and I'll say it again: you cannot simulate, through software, complete removal of power (battery pull).
Thanks Storm!!! My Torch battery is near impossible to remove without something to pry it on the right side... installed the nagware quickpull begrudgingly only to be inundated with requests to access my personal info... yuk! the author must be compiling a database of it's sheep!
Thanks again for the 'Alt-Shift-Del(2)' - now I can loose some excess app baggage!
When I had the 8100s I had to reset 3 or more times a day. When I had my first 8130, I would just remove the cover and yank the battery but noticed after a while that the battery door was getting a bit loose. When I got another 8130, I put it in an otterbox which made pulling the battery a huge pain. Softreset was great and I used quick pull as well despite running into problems with both when trying to reset when my memory hit 0 bytes. Since having a 9700 though I rarely ever reset (and only do from old 8130 habits) and just punch the keys instead of a program.
Lastly, in App World, part of QuickPull's description says: "QuickPull has become the "must have" utility of every BlackBerry user." That's really sad and a big plus for the iPhone. Especially since bb is a business tool and iPhone is really just a toy. Imagine xbox vs ps3 and one of the units needed to be constantly reset in the middle of using. So nice not having to reset the 9700.

I agree with furballz just pull the battery out its not that big a deal. Had my bold for a couple months and the only times I've pulled the battery was after I did an OS upgrade. As for a program that simulates you pulling the battery I don't really see the point.

When will people realize this? I've also said it 1000 times, but people still insist that either apps like Quick pull, Quick launch, and the likes, or using the Alt+Shift+Del is the same as doing an actual battery pull. Sooner or later they will realize it's not the same.
I do alt shift del. Is it better to battery pull? I do it once or twice a day. I do it to clear the ram even though I rarely have memory leak
