Is there any way for quicklaunch to just open the SMS application instead a new SMS to a contact?

By the SMS app, do you mean to open the SMS inbox? Just clarifying, but I'm assuming this is what you mean as that would the actual SMS app to me.

Yes and no. If the SMS folder was the last thing you were in when you went to the Messages app, then you can. AKA Messages will open up the last folder "state" that it was in.
