First of all you need to have "have dial from homescreen" disabled before you can set an shortcut.
To do this you need to bring up the phone log by hitting the green button on the left. Then you would need to press the blackberry menu key, and scroll down to where it says options and select that. It will bring up another screen that says "general options" select that and scroll down to where is says "dial from homescreen", and select no, and save.
After that open up quicklaunch, and the press the blackberry menu key, and select "add items", it will bring up an screen and select "applications", and then at the top of the screen you will be able to select the application you want to add to quicklaunch and near the bottom of the screen it gives you the option to set an 1-3 alphabetic shortcut, after you do that, hit the menu button and then select save, then you should be good to go.
I am only allowed to set a one letter shortcut, i thought it was possible to set a 2/3 letter shortcut. Also is it possible to set a shortcut to a special character? For example if I wanted to set Compose email to "@" is that possible?
Hmm, I have version 2.18.2 which is for the Bold 9700, I checked at Nikkisoft's website, and looks like the shortcut option which you are looking for isn't available for the 9630 yet, but they are working on it.
Hmm...that's weird. I bought mine from App World so I don't know what the deal would be. I would contact Nikkisoft and see if they can't get you set up with 2.17.
Unless someone else here knows a better way to solve this. I'm not a genius in these things yet
