Looking at giving Twitter a go. I would like to follow company pages like Dell and United's twitter pages since they post deals and coupons that I take advantage of. I don't know if I will actually use it to post updates, but I am more concerned with the quickest refresh when the users I follow post updates. Are the majority of the clients pretty fast to update? Only ones I know of off the top of my head are TwitterBerry and UberTwitter.

I use both TwitterBerry and UberTwitter and both are very quick and easy to set up and use.

You can also just have Tweeters' post send directly to your phone via sms if you're just looking to get updates.

The quickest is to set up twitter to just forward to your phone via SMS.

Most of the apps will let you setup how ofter you want them to refresh, but the more refreshes you are doing the more it will drain your battery.
