Thanks Sam, I just checked RIM's developer pages and there is a simulator for your model and OS. I'm downloading it now to try and reproduce the issue you described.

I just cleaned the build tree for SpeedNotes and repackaged it. I'm curious to see if that fixes your issue Sam?

I deleted and re loaded SN and had the same issue. I copied the log for you. It appears similar to Wu-wei's in that it says application running already. Sorry I broke your app, Russ

Thanks for the log entries, they really help pinpoint where the problem is. It seems that there is an issue with the auto start job (which sets up the launcher entry in the blackberry menu on boot) perhaps not exiting cleanly. I'm a little perplexed as I haven't touched that code for a while, certainly not since the last volatile. I grabbed a 9700 simulator for 5.0.0.979 and will be using that to replicate the issue later today.

No need for apologies Sam, finding these sort of issues is one of the reasons I wanted to run this beta before putting SpeedNotes on sale.

    Thanks again!

    Russ.

I installed a new OS last night and SpeedNotes is launching just fine again. I haven't had a chance to test out the new loading features....

It definitely seems to be OS specific. Was your previous OS (a hybrid?) based on 5.0.0.979?

I loaded up the super volatile version. Danger is my middle name. This seems to be running just fine on my S2. I can create, load, save, send, reload. All without getting any kind of error message.

My previous OS was a hybrid based on 6.0.0.615.

As I think on this, I was not prompted to reboot after I installed the volatile version, so that may have been the issue for me. I don't use the menu option, so I am usually not prompted to reboot. That might be another issue or source of the problem...

I'm never promoted to reboot on my storm2 either, again because I also don't use the menu option as I have quicklaunch.

I've been thinking through the code that runs when SpeedNotes is run and have one thought as to what might be causing the issue but won't know until later when I have the chance to do some debug runs.

I was using the menu option at times and was required to re-boot on update. I do miss using this today. Isn't it funny how you can get so used to using something like this so quick?

    (whispers) awaiting update instructions :-)

Ok, I haven't had much luck replicating the issue in the simulator so I went on a thorough debug with a magnifying glass expedition on all the startup code and fixed some potential issues I found. I've uploaded a new volatile, please let me know if it fixes your issue!

Am I the only one having this issue now? I deleted and reloaded again and allowed all permissions (they were already allowed but I checked) and the same thing is going on. Seems very strange indeed. Log looked the same as earlier so I'm clueless. Sorry Russ. I know this has got to be driving you nuts as well! Could it be something with my BB? The only program I downloaded after SN I deleted this afternoon to see if that was maybe to blame somehow but apparently has nothing to do with it. I'm using the same theme too. :-( :-( :-(

No error message after reboot, everything loads from the memopad/files ...but loading from the memopad ..that's a pretty sick feature!

It should do, if it has any issues I would be grateful of the help testing!

    Thanks!

    Sam, Thank you!!!!!!!!!

That was the piece of the puzzle I needed to reproduce your issue, it's to do with the 'Insert date stamp on new note' option. Switching that on and then exiting and relaunching SpeedNotes reproduces the lockup.

Now I have somewhere to start! Working on it now.

    Thanks again,

    Russ.
