When I access Facebook on the Blackberry I have a green dot and am marked as Online. It therefore appears like I am on a computer, and am able to chat. Most of the time I am out and about, I might check Facebook whilst waiting in a shop, etc, not sitting at a computer able to chat. Why do I not get the mobile phone symbol like my friends?
My friends also say that when I stop chatting I remain marked as online for exactly 10 minutes, or 20 minutes, from the time i sent my last message. Does anyone know why it sometimes 10 mins, other times 20 mins?

The Facebook application has chat built in but automatically shows you offline when you are not using it for a period of time. The small mobile phone icon you see against some people indicates that they have the separate Facebook messenger app installed that combines your chat and private messages into one stream. You can download it from app world.

Thanks James.mead1981. I'll download the Messenger app! Is there a way that I can tell which of my friends are online without going online myself? Friends on Iphones seem to be able to do this, or so they tell me.....

damn! was wondering if there was something within the app that i was missing to allow me to see online friends without me having a green dot. I.e. i have friends begin chats with me that i don't want to chat with. Would prefer to be able to remain offline until I see that my good friends come online.

TorchMe73, you will not appear truely online with a green dot - you will have the small phone icon beside your name indicating you have the Messenger app installed.

Free Chat For Facebook - You can chat or appear offline and check who is online

Facebook Messenger - Read and send facebook messages (I don't think you will appear online if you use it)
