Glad to see Whatsapp is finally free. Upgraded to 2.9.571 and now my account status says "Expiration: Lifetime Service".

I guess LINE and the other programs finally concerned the Whatsapp people.

I like WhatsApp but can't handle that it is such a resource hog! I've had it on my 9810 and off my 9810 several times and everytime It's on the phone, even when I close it, it drains the battery like no other app I've ever seen! There are three ways to close it but only one way to completely exit it and that is by the menu. If you just use the escape key or the menu button to say close, it closes the app but continues to run in the background (as does Facebook, GPSs and many others). However if you use the menu button and hit the "exit" key, it closes it completely but then others that use it won't be able to see you or text you. I'd love to have it on but not worth the battery drain.
If you guys wouldn't mind posting the battery drain you are getting with the newest update, I and many others would appreciate it. Maybe with the new update, it won't use as much power to run. Thanks!

That's so weird I was asked this question today so I looked on WhatsApps website and found after clicking a few platforms: BB & WP8 = Free; iOS = $0.99; Android = $0.99 for 1yr subscription. Interesting. I had no idea.

Teaboy, it wasnt really free forever. Most of my friends who installed it got the first year free then had to pay after but a lot of users, like me, got how many years before we have to pay for it. I installed the app 2011 and it says my account will expire in 2022. Not sure why or how that happened.

A couple of friends on iPhone said they got it for free and they signed up, not sure if it's still available.

Sorry for late reply /bloodlyrec! I have the latest OS on the phone--always upgrade to the newest and greatest! Unless you turn it completely off not just close it, it will continue to run in the background--app running =battery drain.

There was never a version of WhatsApp for BlackBerry that offered lifetime service. Version 2.9.571 had a bug where it would incorrectly display that you had lifetime service, when no actual changes to your account had occurred. This bug was fixed in the next version.
