I know for the bold, weather bug has a setting where it can be on all the time. This way will keep updates and temperature etc current. Or you can access the icon and it will load up and update. Then you have to go in and exit to not leave it running. Are you wondering about battery drain?

That & memory usage. But really it doesn't update when I exit the program, only if it runs in the background.
