I have BB Tour (Verizon of course) issued by my work, however Skype.com is blocked on by the IT dept (telecom bandwidth), so I cannot get the download when it sends the link to my phone (cuz it's going to skype.com of course).

Can anyone assist me with another site that I could download it from? Or where I could get the download and use blackberry desktop to deliver it to the phone?
    thanks a bunch!

don't know how to go around an IT block, they block programs on a work issued phone for a reason.

The block's intent is to keep people from downloading Skype on the work's internet & running it. It carry's over to the BB internet blocks - not the same intention.

However, I am wanting to load the software, not get around the block to skype.com (which I don't believe I can do).

Then you should contact your IT department about removing the block.

So your company's policy is to prevent you from running Skype on your phone.

Why then, do you want to download it?

Good golly, you folks kill me. Your company only wants you to use 3 sheets of toilet paper per outing.
They don't want to use ANY resources to allow me to bypass something for my own personal use, and I TOTALLY agree with this.
But this is not sucking up a resource of theirs when I use the phone (yeah, it's allowed for personal use) to make a call using Skype on my personal time.

The policy prevents you from GOING to the site, not running the application.
If you know of a way to assist me in gathering the download I'd appreciate it.
    Thanks in advance,

On the BES, your internet goes through your company's network, so using Skype is going to suck up company resources, as my understanding is that VZW doesn't allow Skype over wifi. Saying the policy is only against dloading it and not using it sounds like splitting hairs to me. They block the former to keep the latter from happening.

Getting mad at people giving advice won't help you. Listen or you might be signing in as Terrible former Employee...

you know, the BB comes with facebook app and I'm sure the company, which surprisingly doesn't block FB, doesn't approve it.

I'm not looking to download illegal music, surf porn, etc. If I was looking for someone to give me the "company" answer, I'd call the network admin & ask him how to download skype.

I just thought someone here may have the knowledge I was looking for. Sorry, didn't mean try to get anyone here involved in corporate espionage.

We have the same block in place in order to keep employees from placing data intensive Skype calls using PCs and laptops on the Company network. You can specify that downloads occur using TCP or BIS as opposed to BES by setting your Browser options correctly (i.e., Options >>> Advanced Options >>> Browser: set Default browser configuration to Internet Browser, not BlackBerry Browser).

Try the direct download link at http://mobile.vzw.com/download/Bourb...ype_mobile.jad, which a VZW site (not Skype).

Also, for everyone's info, Skype mobile calls using this app use the VZW voice network, not the data network, from the BlackBerry. They are routed to or from Skype within VZW network.

Thank you very much visortgw - you helped me and certainly helped clear up my company "atrocities" (still, I understand that this IS company property, ultimately) by explaining the time or two a month I will use the Skype isn't in fact using the data network.
