Called At&t about our Blackberry Bold Navigator GPS AP and they said the thing only works in US & Canada. We are traveling in Italy and will need GPS. Does anybody know of a GPS ap that works in Europe and Asia - maybe a download that we could pay per use service or purchase service on a month by month basis when abroad?
Try amazeGps, which is free. You'd have to check which countries are specifically supported though. This app requires data though.
You're better off plopping down the $$ for a garmin. International data roaming charges are going to be expensive especially if you're using it as a navigation tool and constantly have to keep refreshing the maps drawn to your screen.
If you're really strapped for cash, get a Garmin with international maps already loadeed at a place that has a good return policy, then return the device when you get back from your trip.
Most Garmins sold in the US only have North American maps and require European maps to be bought separately. There are international ones though.
Not the most morally ethical thing to do, but a possible option.

Supposedly they have an arrow only mode that doesn't redraw the maps to save data usage.
b. This is not quite true that you can't navigate if you don't have an Internet connection. We offer the "arrows mode" which is designed for situations where you don't have Internet connection, or when you want to redure the data consumption. You can navigate through an entire route without being connected at all.
