Pardon my ignorance, but what exactly does Multicast do?

Isn't that part of Social Feeds since OS6?
Speaking of which, why didn't social feeds carry over to BlackBerry 10? It was awesome!

If the OP were to tell us which CODs are needed for Multicast, they could be extracted from a 9720 OS installation, and then injected into another 7.1 device via BBSAK.

Any time you install an app (first or third party,) you're installing .cod file(s) (BB10 equivalent is the .bar) I'm guessing the OP extracted the .cod files for Multicast from a 9720-specific OS installed on his/her computer, and that's what was uploaded. The same can be done by anyone who installs a 9720 OS, provided they know which .cod files are needed for Multicast.

But I have a 9720 OS on my computer the 7.1.0.1046 I can't install it on my bold 9900 so...?

No. You would need to grab just the Multicast .cod files, and then, either:

    A) Inject them directly into your 9900, or
    B) Inject them into a 9900 OS' .cod library (and then re-load the OS.)

I could be wrong, but I don't think .alx injection works with BBSAK. They need to be CODs.

How can I do that "B) Inject them into a 9900 OS' .cod library (and then re-load the OS.)" ?

I haven't done this in a really long time, but I believe it goes something like this: go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\(OS)\Java (or the equivalent location on your computer) and paste the multicast .cod in there. Run loader.exe and Multicast should appear in the list.

I also see a C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\(OS) parent folder with a bunch of .alx files in there. Maybe dropping the Multicast .alx in there will work too.

Can you list the names of these .cod files so that anyone else who wants to do this knows which files to work with?

i just want to know what is the difference between multicast and social feeds. Are they not the same thing just using different names?

EDIT: nevermind, turns out its a very slimmed version of social feeds that only broadcasts one status to all your different accounts. social feeds does rss feeds as well as showing different account updates.

    EDIT:
Thank you for posting what it actually is/does.

And in case anyone's wondering which files to grab from an OS install if you want to DIY:

    net_rim_bb_multicast.cod
    net_rim_bb_multicast_lib.cod
    net_rim_bb_multicast_resource_en.cod
net_rim_bb_multicast_resource_es.cod (this may not be needed. The OP is in South America, which is why I think he has it.)

    And the .alx is net_rim_bb_multicast.alx
