MobiPocket Misery
Curve 8520. 5.0.0 Fido Carrier. Nothing corporate. No data. Email.
I've been trying to install Mobipocket via PC.
1) PC tells me that it's installed. I find it on App list. I cannot locate it anywhere else on the 8520.
2) I download an ebook from PC to 8520. All seems fine. I till cannot locate either book or Mobipocket App.
3) Uninstall Mobipocket App. Reinstall through PC with Blackberry App loader. Apparently successful. Still cannot find it. Not on App list.
4) Install via Desktop software. All seems fine. Still invisible. PC Mobipocket reader thinks its on the 8520 but the 8520 doesn't think so. Book should be saved on Card. The 8520 doesn't see it.
No Mobipocket icon or any info for app or book anywhere on the 85200. Desktop software thinks it's installed.
Please, put me out of my misery. What's the next step?
I'm thinking of uninstalling and re-installing once again.
What do you think? One possibility. Mobipocket will not function with 5.0.0.0.
Thanks.

mobipocket does work on 5.0 because I have it. make sure you icons are unhidden as it may have gotten hidden on the install, why I don't know but its a possibility. also hold down the bb buttom and see if you see it in the apps already open because it is always on unless you shut it down by using alt/q

Did you try a battery pull? Also, try opening the app switcher (hold the BlackBerry key) and see if mobipocket is running.

Thanks for the quick responses.
After downloading a sample, both books appeared on my screen in "Library". When I BBed apps open, mobipocket appeared and I was able to access it. When I shut it down, it became invisible again. After a soft reboot, it was still invisible.
I'll try a battery pull. Geez, it's like fiddling with Windows years ago (grin).

OK
Battery pull. Restart.
Mobipocket was set to open at boot. Now its icon is visible using BB button.
Still invisible in menu. Show all is checked. Mobi does show in the third-party app list.
Is there any way to create an icon--link the app to the main menu?

There should be an icon if it's showing in the app switcher. That's really weird. You checked all the subfolders and evrything?
-
I'm not sure I know what you mean by checking all the subfolders. How would I do that? Via Windows Explorer, I would guess.
-
Lol no I meant like your downloads folder and all that.

Ah! Yep, it's in my downloads folder. I have a menu option to move the icon, or move the icon to a folder. I moved it to home. Problem solved. Thanks for all the help. I learned a lot.

Lol, welcome to BlackBerry :)

Two things also to remember with MobiPocket:
- It expects all ebooks to be in the \eBooks folder. If files are loaded anywhere else, they may not show up in your library.
- MobiPocket leaves a small portion of its app up and running so it can synchronize with the desktop app. The sync process will transfer new ebooks, plus annotations. If you don't want this to run in the background, press Shift-Q when viewing the library to close it down completely.
