Are there any free data alert apps out there that monitor usage?

I have tried Mobile Data Alerter but it doesnt do what I want... I'm after an app that monitors my data while I'm tethering to my laptop.

I've searched but can't see any obvious links.

Try A Personal Assistant. I'm not sure if they have Vodaphone as a compatible company. I use it with ATT and it will show me how much data I have used along with other details of my account. You have to physically check, it will not alert you.

Probably not what your looking for either...
