This differs from device to device and from OS to OS. The only answers that would be relevant to you are other 8900 users running the same OS. I'm on a 9700 running 423 and I have about 3% per hour with heavy usage running fb, ubertwitter, foursquare and others.
Anywhere from a couple of tenths of a percent on standby to 11%+ running video.
Keep in mind too that a lithium ion battery doesn't discharge linearly. It will discharge quickly at first, then plateau out, then drop off quickly at the end. So your discharge rate will also vary depending on how charged the battery is.
Mine is all over the map. I've got an 8900 running 5.0.0.348 (haven't had time to install 411 yet, although I downloaded it 2 weeks ago!). During the week, I'm sitting at desk on the 42nd floor of 55 Water Street in Manhattan facing the river, and my T-Mobile signal is weak and fluctuating. Discharge rate in that environment is over 6% an hour as the phone winds up "searching" for a signal more often than not. I've taken to plugging it into a charger while I sit at my desk these days.
On weekends when I'm home and have UMA working, my discharge rate drops to about 2.1% to 2.3%. This is with MeterBerry running, along with BerryWeather 2.1 beta, Visual Voicemail (T-Mobile) running too.
Sorry to bring up this old thread, but then what else is the point of search?
I'm on Storm 2, running .607 and after reboot, my discharge rate is a whopping 27.5% /hr!!
9700 running .234 (I think). I get about a half percent on non heavy days ( emailing, maybe a weather check or two) to 2 percent on heavy days ( watching CB for theme releases, and general surfing while passing time).

Also keep in mind, the signal has a large part in battery drainage. If you're in a area with low or poor signal coverage, your phone will constantly search for a better/stronger signal by using the battery.
On a side note, I have meterberry installed and contemplating on migrating to battery Ex. just wanted to hear some opinions from meterberry users about Battery Ex. Any thoughts.

I use Battery Ex because of the skins for the battery meter. I still use Meterberry and use the memory notification icon. Check out the Battery Ex thread for some really good skins.
my Torch with only normal BB apps open, only texting and whatnot, and im at 4.4%. but i am hitting up to 8% which seems insanely high. this phones battery blows.
i have an average of 6.9% with a high of 27%. and this is with very minimal use. i have no idea what the heck is going on. every 10 mins i seem to drop 1%.

On my 9700 I have recently started dropping like a rock: 10% per hour with only normal apps active. Is ther an app that tells you what is drsining the battery? Thanks.

My sentiments exactly. What exactly is draining my battery?
In all fairness, I use an extended battery so the results would be different with a stock battery. I barely made it to the evening on stock batteries before I switched so my discharge rate would be much higher on those.

I didn't even know there were such batteries out there? How much and where can you buy?
running about 1.5% per hour on 9700... i should have got this when i was using the torch, battery was brutal on that one... OS6 on 9700 brought me back. I cant stand charging during the day - some days its not really an option..
