Though I would recommend against any app that shows your battery life in any form, all they do is use more battery and RAM.
There have been themes that do this. I had one on my 9700 that displayed the battery % over the battery icon.
On the 9810 this probably cannot be done until RIM release Theme Studio 7 and who knows when or even if that will happen. It is supposed to be released this quarter but that news is quite old.
Meanwhile you can see the battery percentage charge 2 ways,
- Go to Options, Device, Device and Status Information
- Type <Alt><LeftShift>H when not in an app

This modification requires some clever .svg file coding and I have only seen it a couple of times.
Right now all 9810 themes are complied on Theme Studio 6 and this can cause problems under OS 7 depending upon which functions are used.
I really do not know why RIM could not get TS7 out at the same time as OS7. But then they did this with OS5 and OS6 so I guess that I should not be surprised.
Once TS7 is releaed, you might be able to ask a theme developer to insert this directly into a theme for you. This might require beer money to change hands though.
