Just received word that AIM and ICQ was enabled by RIM on ALL carriers yesterday. The account tags were enabled for everyone. I tested this and my AIM client is successfully connected and working, no issues. You can delete the OZ client now.
So everyone that's been trying to get this working can now be at ease. It's finally enabled by RIM. Give it a try
Looking at the system requirements page, it states that you need a data plan, and says nothing about text, so I would assume it uses data. But I do not know for sure.
Use the search button. There are threads in both the Curve 83xx and this very forum... 2 others on this front page.
From what I can tell, it's data not texts. And it works swimmingly.
Does this work on ATT? OP stated that it works for them on ATT but everyone that seems to be responding to the thread is on Verizon. Can anyone with ATT confirm AIM is working for them.
I have an 8310 with OS 4.5.0.69 on AT&T and I'm using the RIM AIM client version 2.0.46. Included are pics to show it's working.
Make sure you have the correct and NEW service books for AIM installed and you will have to install the AIM client on AT&T by either installing the cod and alx files via apploader or the 4.5 version has it in the package, you will just have to edit the files for it to show up since they have it hidden for that vendor.
I installed the 2.0.46 client right from the 4.5 package by editing the files. The service books I had to get from a buddy and install with DM.
