it just wreaks havoc on my memory and operating speed. I can't have Slacker in the background without the entire phone slowing to a grinding halt and even resulting in frozen issues requiring batt pulls...

Yeah, I only use it in cache mode, but I use it for several hours per day and I do a LOT while it is playing. It makes battery a little short, but that is to be expected. When it is not playing, I make sure that it is shut down completely. I have zero complaints with Slacker...
