I finally got it to work last night (after one attempt). Apparently I did not do something right when I first tried to install it over a month ago.

OK I have done everything except unable to find the sync service book. Still I was able to Download and install the Yahoo service book needed.
It shows up on my device I registered it and resent my service books.

My question is once all this is done is a Icon suppose to show up for Yahoo or do I have to now Download Yahoo messenger?

I also did a batterypull to be on the safe side.

One other thing in my HTR Editor the only one showing up in BOLD letters is Cingular [31041030]

    NEVER MIND.

I went to the BlackBerry Site and Down loaded the 2.0 now it shows up and is working

Thanks!! I guess At&t wants people to use there text numbers instead of data. I don't think I have a unlock phone. I just bought it from at&T. Is there any other way around it?

    4. Manually register your handset with the RIM network via the HRT editor (Click here for How-To)

    5. Log into your BIS account and re-send BIS service books
    BIS 1.8 from PC ...
Those links appear to be stale. Can you post updated links to the same information or provide a summary of those instructions?

How do you manually register with the HRT?

How do you log into your BIS account?

Thanks in advance for all the support!

it does work... I just did it tonight.

1>Connect Your Device and run a backup (Insurance purposes. )

2> On the first page of this post there is a link to the Service Book you will need. download it say to your desktop. I know it works... I just downloaded it.

    3> connect blackberry to computer

    4> run desktop manager

5> In desktop manager select BACKUP AND RESTORE option

6> In backup and restore... select the ADVANCED button

7> In the advanced tab window there is a right-pane and left-pane. Drag the SERVICE-BOOK file you downloaded from step 2 into the right pane. It will probably blank out everything in the LEFT pane and you will end up seeing a SERVICE BOOK in the left pane of the screen.

8> hilight that service book and click on the arrow that goes to the right so it will put it on your blackberry.

Once the transfer is complete you can close out the backup/restore and the whole desktop manager.

NOTE: IF YOU HAVE PREVIOUSLY SETUP EMAIL ACCOUNTS ON YOUR BLACKBERRY, THEY MAY HAVE DISAPPEARED. Don't worry about it because we will be resending service books to have them appear automatically again.

9> Go to the Settings Folder.

10> Select the OPTIONS icon (Default is that the icon is a wrench).

    11> Click on ADVANCED OPTIONS

12> Click on HOST ROUTING TABLE option

13> Click on the MENU button and then on REGISTER NOW.

14 Now ESCAPE back out to the main window.

15> To resend servicebooks you simply take you blackberry and go the BLACKBERRY SETUP folder

16> In the Blackberry SETUP folder there is a PERSONAL EMAIL SETUP icon (looks like a mail envelope with a gear on it). Select that and it should take you to the Blackberry's ATT site.

If you haven't yet created an account with blackberry for your ATT device you can create one . Otherwise if you already have an account you can log in.

17> Once Logged in there should be a menu option for SERVICE BOOKS. Select that option and send you service books back to your device. This is so all of your email accounts you may have previously setup will be re-done again on your blackberry.

18> All email accounts will show back up that "disappeared".

Yahoo Messanger should now also work just as expected.

that is about it. ... my process is virtually the same as the original post ... but maybe a little more detailed for those newer to the blackberry handhelds.

    Info:

RIM's Yahoo Messenger requires a specific service book "BBFS2 [YHO]" to be able to use the program. AT&T (formerly Cingular Wireless) does not provide that service book even though you can download and install Yahoo Messenger just fine. Their goal is to get users to download the OZ IM application from MediaNet because it uses text instead of data.

If your phone is unlocked, you can insert another GSM carrier SIM card (such as T-Mobile) and download/install Yahoo IM. At that point, you should check your service books to make sure you have "BBFS2 [YHO]" listed and then switch back to your SIM. If your phone is locked, continue reading.
If i where to buy a Blackberry 8820 Smartphone AT&T (unlocked) From mobilecityonline.com
Thas att branded but unlocked to use T-moble as well all i would have to do is put the card in ? and switch it back to ATT Card

most likely .... find a friend that has T-Mobile... and use their SIM card (temporarily) ... then make sure you have that service book listed above once you have Yahoo running..... then I think you can switch back to your ATT SIM without any issues.

While the instructions in the original post (or my reply post up a few replies from this one) might seem daunting or long and cumbersome.... it is really pretty easy to do and there is no real need for a TM SIM unless you have quick easy access to one.
