Depends what you do to remove them but no you can safely remove podcasts and social feeds.

No social feeds is just a nice OS6 addition and other apps do not need it to function.

No need to worry. I shrink out what I don't need when I don't use it within a month and regardless of how much device memory mine has, shrinking is the way to go about it. Maximum memory for me is now a habit lol
