I put the Garmin on my 9700. Is there any reason to keep google maps on my phone if I now have Garmin?

That would totally be your choice. Google may do more and/or different searches/locations. If you go out of country, I believe google would still work but Garmin might not have any data or not provide any data as it is US-centric.

Keep Google Maps installed. I have had Garmin Mobile installed in my past three devices and continued to depend on and preer Google Maps weekly for its superior local search and its ability to 2D pan and zoom.

I concur with adamlau. I have both on my 9700; each program has its uses, and the 9700 has plenty of memory for them both.
