ugh, I gave freerange another try and I'm sad to say bye bye viigo... :(
I have way more than 10 feeds with no problem, so I don't know what the deal is with the limit. unfortunately it's faster and smaller than viigo, so now it's freerange for me. I didn't like it the first time I tried it because it seemed bothersome, but once I customized everything I like it better... sorry viigo.

I like Viigo too, thanks for the heads up on Freerange though. I'll give it a shot as I have quite a few apps hence quite a bit of mem loss. I have all my Viigo background and save features disabled. I'm happy to try things that are not as bloaty

I'm trying Freerange right now. So far not at all impressed with FreeRange, having a **** of a time just trying to enter my password. Screen clicks seem to be way off.

I have Viigo but it doesn't update the channels I added which is completely annoying. I keep having to delete and readd them. I have tried updating the particular channels, all channels, and battery pulls but no change. All the other channels updates just fine just not the ones I added. Could I be doing something wrong? I am a newbie to all this.Perhaps I will try free range.

2 questions, where do you get Free range and how do I check the memory on a 8330
-
NewsGator Go. It's free, fed by Freerange, full featured, no feed limit, and syncs flawlessly with your NewsGator / NetNewsWire software on your desktop.
Why would you pay $40 for Freerange?

Ya know....I got rid of it. There's nothing wrong with it but I found it used a lot of memory and I wasn't reading the feeds. I can get sports scores by text alerts and the flight stuff wasn't to my liking. There wasn't much value in having it for me.

I used Viigo for more than a week wiyh no issues. No memory leak or anything else. I have more than 100 feeds and I loved the Google Reader intergration. Now I use Free Range: seems simpler and straight-forward. More options, more customization. I miss the Viigo weather but that was mostly wrong so not really a loss. Other than that, free Range is smaller and takes up less space so I guess I'll strick with this_i use it once a day thru wifi anyway.

I really liked Viigo. If it could store data on SD card, it would be perfect for me. I just found I had to keep clearing out feeds all the time in order to have enough memory for other apps. That's mostly due to the smaller initial memory of my 8830.

I use both and have found both to be great. But I will tray news gator as well.

I think the biggest issue I have with Freerange is that you can only have 10 feeds with the free version. Is it true that it will let you have more??
-
actually the lite version of viigo works well without all the bs and hogging resources. Also since viigo has been acquired by rim I have noticed a lot of improvements on speed, like how quickly things update and how quickly i can access the full page if i need to
-
I believe Viigo will be included as default on next OS.
because RIM already purchase Viigo

Another app to add to my automatic deletion list.

I like Viigo. It's an easy way to check a number of feeds. I also like being able to punch in a site's web address, and if there are any RSS feeds associated with that site, Viigo will add them. The podcasts are nice as well.
I still have an issue with some of the feeds updating; like traffic and some podcasts.
I'm sure as time goes on, they'll make improvements.

Well, I loaded FreeRange and it definetely allows you to have more than 10 feeds (I have about 30).
For those looking for an alternative from Viigo News (i.e. lite), here are a few features that I believe makes FreeRange the better choice:
- Although I just started using it today, it seems a little snappier, especially when loading full articles within the client.
- The spacebar can be used to scroll.
- You can have old articles listed at the top, which can allow you to scroll to the next unread newest article. This was sort of available in Viigo, but you were not able to go to the next newest and unread article.
- When finished reading through unread articles in a feed, it will go to the next unread article within the next feed, without having to back out of the feed you are currently in.
- It downloads the favicon for the feed (kind of cool).
- Different color schemes available (also kind of cool).
- When you send an article to someone or to yourself, there is the option to avoid using your BlackBerry e-mail address, so you don't have to have a sent e-mail on your device as well as a "received" e-mail at another address.
I think I found a new RSS reader.
-
Well, the article navigation in FreeRange is not as great as I originally thought. I miss the option in Viigo where you can access all unread feeds and then navigate through them (although I wish there was a shortcut to go to the next unread AND newest article). I wish that the "0" shortcut in FreeRange, which allows you to go to the next unread article, will go to the next unread article in the next unread feed. Rather what happens is it will go to the next feed in the list, weather or not that feed has an unread article or not. The result is that by simply using the "0" shortcut key to navigate, you will have to scroll through some articles that you have already read.
I've also noticed the following two "bugs" that should be fixed:
- when sending an article, text from prior e-mail is saved; also, message does not recognize autotext; also, only a contact's first e-mail address is able to be selected
- despite setting, more than 25 feeds stay within a feed
Obviously, both have some good things and both could use some improvement.
