Foursquare is alive and well and works great in Lima, Peru using the BB Bold 9000 with OS 5.0.0.411 on CLARO. Would be even better if it linked directly to contacts so when you check in you already have the address info etc logged in.
It also lets you know other places of interest near you or other cafes or restaurants. It needs a good database and at this time relies on participants to add the places they visit or places you like. For example I added half a dozen great Bed and Breakfast places in Italy, Albania and Macedonia to the data base but 'checked in' that I was here in the local coffee shop in Lima, Peru - 8000 Km away from the other places added. It would really help if you could upload the places from your address book, especially business places to the database otbherwise the first time you check in from somewhere you need to add all the relative info and if you also want to add that to your contacts you have to repeat the whole process. That part is a real pain. But it also tells you who - of your friends are near to you. I agree with Garz you have to play with it to really like it and appreciate it. I have only used it a day but prefer it fro apps like Twitter where you seem to attract thousands of people you don't know all trying to sell you something. I like that about it.
That said on a slightly different theme - I get invites on BBM from people I do not know and there seems to be no way to check their profile to see if you would actually want to add them - frustrating.
Good info. I guess it just isn't for me, used it for 8 days and gave up on it. Since I could integrate it into socialscope I thought I could make use of it but it just wasnt for me I guess. I actually see garz using it all the time
No visible significant changes. Been trying it out in the boonies outside of Lima and it does seem to be working well - but having to add a lot of places.
I also use SocialScope and have used this a bit side by side. Seems to work fine. I guess I'm still getting the hang of what FourSquare is all about though.
I did notice more issues in trying to login with the new 1.0.3 version (which I wasn't experiencing with 1.0.1).
Seems to be problems with both their web site and the BB app. Having problems logging in with 1.0.3 saying I have a connection problem. It worked really well for the first 3 checkins then bang.... so perhaps they have a system issue .... otherwise please get us 1.0.4 ASAP so we can be back in business.
