Ok, I'm a new BB user, just acquired my new Bold yesterday.. my questions are probably simple, but perhaps complicated.

    What I want:
    1. sync my home email to my BB (am currently using Windows Vista with the standard Windows Mail program). Have a personal email account set up through surewest (username@surewest.net). I also just signed up for a Gmail account.
    2. Syn a calendar, appointments, contacts, etc. to my BB (currently use Palm Desktop manager for my calendar, appointments, contacts, memos, etc.).

    What I have done:
    1. I signed up for a Gmail account. Not sure why, but others have said I should do this.
    2. Signed up for Google Calendar. Again, not sure why.. This program does not seem to sync with my BB (or I should say the appointments that I input onto the BB calendar do not syn up to the google calendar).

    What do I need?
    1. what email program to use? Should I buy the latest version of Outlook to manage my contacts and emails?
    2. Will Outlook allow me to sync the calendar and contacts with my BB?
    3. Does the current BB desktop manager have any programs for managing the calendar and emails from a desktop applicaton? or do I need a third party app?
    4. Do I need a Gmail account?
    5. What is the best way to move all my data from my Palm to my BB?

I know this is a lot to ask, but I really have no clue as to what I need, since my old Palm OS/Desktop manager did it all (didn't use email with the Palm).

    Thanks in advance...

If I dont have Outlook installed yet, should I still go through the process of setting up my email account through setup or through the ATT BIS service site?

go with a bes account and a hosted exchange account (mailstreet.com or intermedia.net.) it's a few dollars more per month but makes the sync process sweet and simple!
