I would like to just start a thread discussion about the app....Is their a way to email the file to someone besides sending it as a link? and also their should be a way to upload something to dropbox, and them move it to your BB. Just a thought.

You should be able to send the file itself as an attachment in an email. Download the file to your device from DropBox via the DropBox app -> Compose an email and choose to add an attachment -> Navigate to the the file in the DropBox folder on your device and select it as the attachment -> Send the email.
That's kinda the whole point of DropBox. You place a file in your DropBox, then the DropBox app should be able to download it to your device when you need it.and also their should be a way to upload something to dropbox, and them move it to your BB. Just a thought.
Nevermind. They fixed the link.
Being able to upload more than just pics from your Blackberry would be nice. Hope they are working on that.
+1 - that is the whole point of dropbox

how does this work for music files? I have mp3s on my laptop that i would like to listen to on my bb Storm 2. if i transfer the music files to a dropbox folder in my pc, will i then be able to listen to them on my BB?
This app is nearly pointless without the ability to upload something other than pictures.

yeah i believe im slowly seeing everything that the app cant do and they are need of an update quick!
I haven't had the opportunity to try this myself as yet, but I have seen on the DropBox beta forums you can indeed stream media, and that people are successfully doing so.
Give it a shot and let us know!
barljo
You can stream the mp3s but I found on anything less than wifi or 3g it can be choppy.
I was hoping I could save them straight from dropbox to my SD card.
Have to send myself a email link to do that.

I don't see any option to download pictures.
I can't see the point here, you cannot simply download and save stuff to the phone's memory or MicroSD. Just point & peek is kinda like "look don't touch"
Great concept, but not finished yet on the BB.
not finished for sure on the BB.
1) Need to be able to upload anyfile
2) Need to be able to move any files
3) Need to be able to download to SD card.
Editing word/txt docs work fine i guess though...
Yeah, it's really odd the BB version doesn't allow you to directly download and save to your device/SDcard. I'm relatively confident the feature will be added (why it wasn't at initial release is wierd because that's the main purpose behind the service).
In the meantime, you can share the link to yourself in an email, then download the file from the link you sent yourself. Really stupid you have to do it that way, as the DrobBox client allows direct downloading on all the other platforms it's available.
just remember: sendtodropbox.com is still available for now as a workaround to get any file to your db account
Thanks...didn't know about that site :)
Also sugarsync does all of the above already so it is possible - sad they have the jump on dropbox like this, I would have thought BB would have been the primary market for these apps as we tend to be file and cloud aware, and tend to use our phones as computers rather than games consoles

If you think about how Dropbox works on your computer, you'll realize it can't work exactly the same on your phone.
On your pc, placing something in your Dropbox instantly syncs it in a matter of seconds. Placing something in your Dropbox on your phone requires a lot of time since the phone's processor/bandwidth is relatively slow.
Also since the bb has these bottlenecks, it doesn't automatically sync/download everything in your dropbox. You're allowed to "stream" everything instead.
Possibly once 4G and a decent processor is released for these phones, we'll see a more pc-like Dropbox experience.

Is it just me or is Dropbox not seeing all photos in the pictures folder? For me, it seess 3 out of 3 in the "Camera" folder and sees 10 out of 20 from the Picture Library. Been trying to figure this out.....
All very true - but as I say, sugarsync can, so dropbox should be able to

...gives a "No application found to open this file." message. I can open pdf email attachments. Do I need to install a pdf viewer or is this a dropbox bug?
you need to install a pdf viewer like RepliGo or BeamReader.
