Does setting all ur permissions for app to " ALLOW " pose a security risk? Such as my data and etc flowing out my phone to somebody?

No, setting permissions just allows a program to run without the device prompting you to run it.

If it is a malicious program, then yes, it can pose a threat.

A malicious application with everything set to ALLOW could do any or all of: copy/forward all your data activity to a third party, transmit your location from GPS to a third party, turn on the microphone and transmit your audio... and send SMS messages to one of those offshore $10 premium rate numbers without asking you.

Most applications which demand Allow for everything are either suspected malicious, or written by an incompetent programmer who was too lazy to do it right. It's the BB equivalent to a simple Windows program which only runs with full "Administrator" rights.

What should I do? Should I allow apps such as Berry weather Stormslider ., google maps etc full ALLOW permissions?

^ first time he ever responds to this type of assumption? nevermind, this is off topic anyway.

    Dear BLACKBERRYGEEKER,

I do not understand why you believe the article I linked you is a worthless read. If you read it through carefully, you would understand that basically any application out there could be a malicious one. Not implying that all software is malicious, but some software could without your consent be collecting "information". This has happened before (on other platforms like gaming consoles and PC, not sure of smartphones) and usually it was the fault of the user for granting the permission for this type of software to collect information. Depending on what an application might do in the background, the information sent out to a server can very well be used to identify you, but it could also be harmless information, such as for how many minutes you've been using the application et cetera. Many developers do this in order to enhance the experience for their customers by providing them what they need without them asking for it specifically. Some developers however might be thinking malicious and as such it is hard to tell what software is safe to install and what not.

What's even funnier is I posted this http://forums.crackberry.com/f145/ho...5/#post4973575 in another thread this morning and after that is when he chimes up in here.

If it's not him, then it's a twin that thinks, talks and uses caps like him, not to mention the obvious similarity in his name.

But the main reason I posted this thread, is because:

1: I would like to know what should I do? Allow all or not, or allow all on certain apps etc?

2: Allow all but deny outside connects?

    3. How do you know which apps are safe to Allow All?

Does anyone have a list of "suspected malicious apps" ? or know of any specific app that we should stay away from ?

My general rule is I allow for the well known apps. New apps I am just trying I don't allow if they prompt

    1. DO WHAT YOU WANT TO DO

    2. If your asking what others do, then personally I've set "all to allow" since I started with the S1 Feb.2009 and then with the S2 since last Oct. without a single problem.

    3. If this was the "main reason you posted this thread then," WHY DIDN'T YOU ASK THESE QUESTIONS IN YOUR OP?
