U can set it to bedside mode. That works for me. Unless you are talking baout something totally different.

I like the bedside mode, but it will only keep the lcd lit with the clock. I would like to keep it lit at my desk when I have Istockmanager running.

I think you are right! I opened the clock and set to bedside mode, then hit the end key, then opened the istockmanager and its been running for a few minutes now without shutting off. It's not at full brightness but it's very easy to see.
