Phone plugged in with sync cable... ready to go! Open Device Manager?

Once you hook your phone up, give it a minute so the computer recognizes it. If Desktop Manager opens itself up, just close it. All we need right now is Shrink-A-OS.

With your phone hooked up, go back to Shrink-A-OS and click "Launch Loader.exe"

Close any of the BB stuff that opens itself up. Don't open anything additional. Shrink-A-OS will run Loader.exe, which is the stripped down version of the update program that Desktop Manager uses.

Once you click "Launch Loader.exe" the Application Loader will start.

Read the little prompt, then click "Next."

You'll see a window that should have "USB-PIN (your PIN number)" already selected. If not, click the bar and select your PIN.

Device Manager is the communcation between the BB and the computer, basically. It automatically runs when you hook up your BB to the comp.

Desktop Manager is the overall maintenance program. It communicates with the BB through Device Manager.

Basically, you're fine. I was trying to expel any confusion but created more, clearly. Just launch the "Launch Loader.exe" like I said.

Yup, just disregard any mention of Device Manager and Desktop Manager.

    Click "Launch Loader.exe"

The program will comminicate with your phone, look for available updates, etc. After 30 seconds or so, it will move to the next screen.

You want to choose the "replace" option and then hit "Next."

Yeah, no one has ever been able to state definitively why it says "downgrade" when we're upgrading! But that's okay, totally normal, happens to everyone.

Yup, you can review everything that's gonna be changed/added/removed here. Again, if things say "downgrade", ignore it.

    Just hit "next."

The next screen you'll see asks you if you want to automatically backup and restore all of your data and applications. Choose yes (the recommended option)!

    Then hit next.

No need to change any of the selections. Shrink-A-OS did that for us.

If you're ready to update, click next. It will start the updating process.
