Data limit/radio apps
hey all, I have the verizon blackberry service...is there a limit on data receiving? I know when I go onto youtube or pandora it tells me that I might exceed my data limit, so I got slacker radio instead (which doesnt give me this disclaimer). My question is this:
If I used slacker radio an average of an hour a day each month, would I exceed my data coverage?
-
Simple Answer.. Yes.
Even if they dont provide you with a popup stating so, Slacker is using data.
You are using between 20KB-40KB on average when streaming radio, either Pandora or Slacker. Factor that into your limit and you'll know how quick you'll reach it.

Most of the time, carriers' "unlimited" data plans are around 5GB/month. You would have to do some pretty heavy data usage to get to those levels.
-
All carriers have a 5G softcap when tethering.
You dont even need to be doing heavy data usage to get that.. I was tethered on/off for a week when traveling for business and came pretty close to hitting the 5 GIG cap.

If you are using Slacker, Pandora, or YouTube on your BlackBerry and not via tethering to your computer, you won't go over your data limit.
-
Tethering produces a different order of magnitude of data usage from on-phone usage.
Current generation smartphones of any brand just aren't powerful enough computationally to take full advantage of the data connections they already have. That's why web browsing is so much faster on a tethered computer than on the device itself.

On VZW the 5gb softcap only comes into effect for tethering; unlimited data for just straight BB data usage is unlimited.
If you are worried about data usage, remember Slacker offers the ability to cache your favorite stations, which means no data usage because they are stored on your phone.
