- Hi everyone,
I just recieved my curve and I'm trying to add some applications to it, specifically, I'm trying to add Opera mini. Only problem is that it doesn't seem to work for verizon phones (configurations, etc). I know that i've read that there is a way to get around this, I just can't find the thread. Anyone care to help me out??
Also, whats really good with verizon's wap site? I am really hoping that the home page that my browser opens up to is NOT the official wap site because its definitely lacking...
Thanks a lot!05-07-08 11:06 PMLike 0 - Here's my situation-- 8330 on verizon w/ unlimited and data plan. I also insalled a 4GB memory card. I want to download opera mini. I went to mini opera's site (I can't put the URL here - too new to include URL's in my posts) from my BB browser. I got the message "your phone model could not be found. High memory and low memory versions of opera are available. We recommend that you download the low memory version. Unless you are certain that your phone will have enough memory to run the high memory version." Then there's a link "see the list of known phones" when I attempt the link I get the same message that my phone model could not be found. On the same page is a link for "try the old opera mini 3" (I don't want old - I want NEW) I am also directed to miniopera.com for more info. I went to that site on my notebook computer and 8330 is not listed as a phone that is compatible. Now here's my questions:
1. Is the 8330 too new and since it's not "officially" released I should wait a few days to download mini opera?
2. I have been scouring the forums for info on this subject and understand there may be an issue w/ some sort of default setting. I went to options>advanced option and was trying to change the apn setting or the tpn settings and there is no such item in my menu. What are you guys talking about? what the heck is apn tpn and all of that (as you can probably tell I'm a newbie)
any help would be greatly appreciated05-08-08 01:04 AMLike 0 - Thanks, SunKast.
Hey Alex, I had a t-mobile curve before and I remember imputing a special address into an APN field before opera could connect to the internet. I was wondering if I had to go through the same process on a verizon phone.
But SunKast is right, you don't need to worry about that.
I just selected "high memory version" (in reference to your post) and so far, so good!
Thanks again, SunKast.05-08-08 01:16 AMLike 0 - Thanks for the info - I'll try now....
welcome to the wonderful world of crackberry -- here I am sitting here freezing cold, past midnight, chain drinking cold coffee. too addicted to this crackberry to even get up and either pee or turn up the heater just so I can download a better browser. 5 days ago I didn't have a BB - couln't have cared less about browsing or mms or sms and didn't even know what a OTA download was. Now my sleep patterns are disturbed (went to bed last night past 3:00). I ditched work all day the last 2 days to play / download / adore my new phone. I've spent over $200 on "accessories" (cases, skins, memory). My wife is angry. She's taken to referring to beautiful BB as "victoria" a pet name she uses in a very derogatory way for anyone / anything that keeps me from giving her exclusive attention. I mean I have a naked wife upstairs waiting for me and I'm down here downloading a browser. this thing really is crack.Last edited by alex1; 07-29-08 at 01:22 AM.
05-08-08 01:26 AMLike 0 - worked like a charm - I reeeeealy like opera mini
Sunkast - you're the best, thanks a ton
BTW - I'm kind of learning a trick to this whoel BB thing: the BB is your friend and wants to please. Don't work too hard trying to figure stuff out. most of the time, the BB does all the work for you and all you have to do show it some love and don't be intimidated05-08-08 02:14 AMLike 0 - I think you need to go upstairs and test out the video camera function with your naked wife.
Post the video under the porno name of Victoria Berry. :lol:05-08-08 11:52 AMLike 0 - You're a sicko. But I appreciate sickos. This forum attracts sickos I think. Sort of a wierd community - crackberry addicts that is05-08-08 10:54 PMLike 0
- I just got my 8330 Verizon Curve today, and I too am having the same issue with Opera Mini. I read you're thread and you basically addressed every concern and problem I was having. I think our Blackberry is just too new. Let me know if you figure out how to get it working.05-10-08 02:27 PMLike 0

- I just installed Opera Mini 4.0 on my Curve. When I try to go to any given website, say ESPN.com or weather.com, I'm getting the following error message:
Failed to connect to the internet.
100
java.lang.SecurityException:
javax.microedition.io.Connector.socket
Does anyone know if there is a fix for this?
Thanks.05-11-08 11:31 PMLike 0 - Thanks fonebrkr. That seemed to work. But now, when I open any link from my bookmarks, I get the following:
The application Opera Mini has attempted to access server4.operamini.com. Would you like to allow this? Yes/No
If I hit "yes", the page seems to load after a long wait. Any ideas?05-12-08 12:11 AMLike 0 - Since opera is an unsigned app, you'll always get the permission request, the beta release 4.1 is definitely faster loading. I don't have the link handy, but it's easy to find on here. The setup is exactly the same, but delete your existing version first to save a little memory.
Got a good laugh about the outside in the cold, Victoria thing, dude, you're not alone by any means.

Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com03-06-09 12:31 PMLike 0 - Hi all,
I realize this is a bit late response to this post, but I knew that most of the non-technical blackberry owners at my work will be thrown if they try to install Opera Mini. Verizon or Opera gives a message about opera mini 4.2 not supported on VZW. But if you keep on plugging away, it will work. So I whipped up this little tip sheet for my small group of users. Thought I should share here too maybe? Hope this is helpful:
If you are interested in trying Opera Mini on your verizon blackberry, here are some hints that might be helpful:
1. Note that Opera browsers have the ability to synchronize their bookmarks. So if you've worked hard organizing your favorites on internet explorer or firefox, you can import them into Opera, then synch them to your phone's "Opera Mini" browser.
2. Optional step: you may want to first download Opera on your PC or Mac. I hereby give permission... www -dot- opera -dot- com -slash- browser Set it up, and organize your favorites. Make a free opera account, and synchronize your bookmarks.
3. Install mini opera on your phone by going here: mini.opera.com on your phone browser (this worked on my Verizon Pearl)
- Click "Download Opera Mini!"
- If fails, try again, select the version with "no signature". Grant "trusted access" when asked.
- Start Opera Mini on your phone
- Allow low-level network access when prompted
- Accept agreement
- Scroll to bottom of opera homepage and "synchronize Opera"
- enter username & pwd in separate text pages
- click your blackberry menu button and select "login".04-21-09 11:20 AMLike 0 - I've got a great idea! Don't worry about opera mini, IT BLOWS! If you are accustomed to using the blackberry browser opera is extremely cumbersome.
Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com04-21-09 12:43 PMLike 0 - I have a BB 8330 curve running OS 4.3.0.127. I installed Opera mini which runs fine. My problem is that I can't make it my default browser. Every time I click on a link, say from an email message, the default BB browser opens up but I want Opera mini to do so. Went to "BB browser > options > browser configuration > browser:" there is a pull down menu there, but only one option available: "internet browser"05-29-09 05:07 PMLike 0
