    Hello blackberry users.

I decided to create a little matrix to compare most of the cross-platform messengers available out there. I have some colleagues who are on other platforms than Blackberry, so I had to get a new messenger for easy communication. Since my IT department is a bunch of braindead zombies, i offered to find a good app we can use.

Security wise, we're screwed since none of the apps have the same security as BBM but i'll just need to adjust my chats and send emails instead for certain topics. I did not include 'security' in the matrix as most messengers use their own push servers...

Here are some things to take into considerations whilst viewing the table:

The table is made of the cross-platform messengers i know of, if there are others, please tell me so i can add them.

The features are taken directly from their website / company blog / company youtube account.

If nothing is entered it means i did not find anything about it on the official website of the app. If you use an app and spot a mistake or know a feature that is missing, please tell me so i can add it.

Speed is a major factor but since i haven't used them yet I didn't feel the need to input it. If you use any of the messengers please test and report back using these criteria:

    1. A. speed using wifi ON + network ON
    2. B. speed using wifi OFF + network ON
    3. C. speed using wifi ON + network OFF

    Report the speed as follows:
    1. 1. extremely fast (sent + received) 1-5 seconds
    2. 2. blazing fast (sent + received) 5-10 seconds
    3. 3. fast (sent + received) 10-15 seconds
    4. 4. medium (15-30)
    5. 5. slow (sent + received) 30+

    example report: Whatsapp A1, B1, C3

-Updated the WhatsApp column with feedback received from WhatsApp creator.
-Updated table, metaclients and clients relying on a social network to operate are now separated to the right
-Added row 'business model'. Will be interesting to see this filled.
    -Various updates

well done. which app does the least damage on battery? I find that liveprofile and whatsapp have cause a 6-10% discharge per hour increase which is ridiculous.

User error. Whatsapp doesn't increase battery usage. I'm under 2% total usage per hour with normal usage.

Thanks for the comparison chart. I've tried a couple recently. PingChat, Live Profile and WhatsApp.
My favorite out of the 3 is Whatsapp, but my only gripe is that it doesn't show a read receipt.
I wish this was here before I had to go through to PITA of trying them and getting my friends to download only to try a different one the next day.

Can you provide any examples of how user error can cause that much battery drain on whatsapp?

This is true. ThTs the one thing I hate about Whatsapp. Has anyone tried emailing the developer and asking if this feature would be added?
Seems like a no-brainer feature that should have been there from the beginning.

    Great chart.

Please consider adding a section to indicate whether the app is integrated to the BlackBerry Profile.

For example - last I checked KIK was not - meaning you could not control notifications. It also required a login each time you rebooted. There may be others which pseudo work but not with native BB app characteristics:

    a. Supports native BB profile
    b. Restarts automatically on reboot
    c. Delivers incoming/outgoing to native BB inbox (not just an icon such as KIK and IM+ for v7 do).

Also BeeJive should probably be on there
