- Reed McLayRetired ModeratorAs it happens, I had an occasion to try Put it Back and discovered that too.
I will test the new version now.07-17-08 01:03 PMLike 0 - OK,
This is very simple.
HOW TO REMOVE SHOP APPLICATIONS
From your device you will:
Options > Advanced Options > Service Book
Here you will find a list of the service books RIM sends to
your device WHICH ARE ONLY SENT UPON REQUEST.
This way this method doesn't need to be done often,
unless you request your service books
This will not effect any other applications on your device.
It will simply, and only, remove the shopping apps,
thus help somewhate with memory but more importantly
just getting those dang things of your phone!
Depending upon your carrier the service books will look
something similiar to this:
AT&T:
Media Mall - Streaming Music [BrowserConfig]
Media Mall - MusicID [BrowserConfig]
Media Mall - Theme [BrowserConfig]
Media Mall - Applications [BrowserConfig]
Media Mall - Multimedia [BrowserConfig]
Media Mall - Graphics [BrowserConfig]
Media Mall - Games [BrowserConfig]
Media Mall - Shop Tones [BrowserConfig]
Media Mall - Music [BrowserConfig]
Media Mall - Community [BrowserConfig]
Media Mall - Tunes [BrowserConfig]
From here, simply hit the menu button then delete.
In further research, I contacted my carrier (AT&T) and RIM technical
support and product management and all 4 departments have
confirmed that you, nor they, CAN NOT configure/edit your service
book database because they are required applications to be sent to
your device. So apparently, if you need to request the service books,
you just simply go through this process to remove them again.
Note: You can also just hide the icons if that is your preference.
These are not applications, they are simply "links" or commands
to your device that prompts it to perform certain actions through
the network.
For technical purposes, they take up very little memory and they
use in total about 1RAM per action.Last edited by iamjoel5; 07-17-08 at 01:38 PM.
07-17-08 01:05 PMLike 0 - I also want to try and put in a confirmation password 'BrickMyPhone' to confirm the 'Wipe Device' selection button. The password will be published on the button and in the help text. It is just that I do not want people accidentally bricking phones and losing all their personal data by accident.
Maybe creating an "Advanced" tab/button
for this would be good07-17-08 01:07 PMLike 0 - Pete6Retired ModeratorCrackMem v2.2 is now uploaded. I have added
- remove tty (happy iamjoel5?)
- added to help text
- changed the look from vertical to horizonal panel to gove more space
- fixed non-working Put It Back button
Download it and use it as you wish.
The main reason for 'going horizontal' was to get more space in the Select Module Removal panel.
Right now there is room for one more but if I squeeze the items up vertically I could get a few more in.07-17-08 01:12 PMLike 0 - Pete6Retired ModeratorOK,

- Sometimes it is neccessary to brick a phone in order to get a clean upgrade
- When people need support sometimes their phones are in a real mess and I wanted one single program that could be used for support purposes.
This is also why I have put in buttons to confirm choices complete with visial responses. A person needing support can now give positive responses. I pressed the big button and go this red message saying 8310_.... It makes it much easier for the guy trying to help.
Now we have a single program that will carry out all the neccessary tasks in a way that a supporter can verify each stage.
It is the nice friendly color for that reason too.
If you check the help file now it gives full instructions for upgrading an OS.Last edited by Pete6; 07-17-08 at 02:02 PM.

07-17-08 01:34 PMLike 0 - Disclaimer: This has nothing to do with Pete's program as far as I know. His program does exactly what it is advertised to do. Also, your mileage may vary..
I just want to give you a heads up on a couple of extra steps that I had to take on my phone...
(This is a 8130, OS 4.3 DM 4.5 on a Winxp machine..)
When I pressed the "Desktop Manager" button, DM opened just as it should have, then checked for newer versions of software, then did nothing else. I had to:
1) Open App Loader
2) Choose the "Update Applications" option.
3) Choose the "Advanced" button under the Device Application Selection heading.
4) Click "Next"
A menu then came up letting me know that the choices that I had made in CrackMem would be removed.
G/L and happy Crackberrying!
ps. Thanks Pete!07-17-08 04:41 PMLike 0 - Disclaimer: This has nothing to do with Pete's program as far as I know. His program does exactly what it is advertised to do. Also, your mileage may vary..

- Pete6Retired ModeratorTo make CrackMem run properly each time under Microsoft Vista you need to set the program set the program to always run as administrator. To do this, use the following steps:
Right-click the program icon and click Properties.
On the Property sheet, click the Compatibility tab.
Under Privilege Level, select the Run this program as an administrator check box, and then click OK.
Note the check in the Run this program as an administrator
This only has to be done once per program.Last edited by Pete6; 07-18-08 at 11:56 AM.
