You missed the part about downloading and installing 4.5.0.138 as an application on your PC. Go to the Verizon site: Verizon BlackBerry Software Updates. Download your OS to your PC desktop. Double-click the exe. That will install the BlackBerry OS as an app on your PC. Then CrackMem can use it.

A maximum of 9 installed OSs are supported. I don't know what happens if you install 10.
As a developer, I laughed my *** off when I read that.

Not unless you run it in some kind of Windows emulator. Even then, I don't know that it's feasible. Desktop Manager and CrackMem are both PC programs, and the device OS has to be installed on a PC as well. I generally recommend Mac users borrow a PC for OS installs and upgrades. It's not something you need to do very often.

    Hi all,
Sorry for this post as i'm sure the answer is staring me in the face.

I have an Orange 8820 and want to remove VAD. Simple through CrackMem v3.4 i hear you say.
Problem is i've backed up through DM but still can't find an OS to amend, do i download this seperately? Which folder do i download it to?

    Thanks all

You need to download the OS for your device and install it. There should be a sticky message with details, at the top of the discussion forum for each device.

Download to any folder you like and run the install on your PC to put the files into the correct location.

OS 5.x is not tested or supported by CrackMem at this time. You will have to move files manually.

    Ahh, get it now!

Next problem. My PIN looks to be blocked from OS 4.5 update from Blackberry direct as its a work issued 8820 and they must not want me changing anything...

I've tried a number of times following the procedures to run crackmem, but every time it just runs the installer. I'm really not all that inexperienced with computer/phone related tweaking, so this is getting pretty frustrating. I want to downgrade back to 4.2(4.5 hangs my phone too often).

If you still have OS4.2 installed on your PC, you don't need CrackMem to downgrade. Just delete OS4.5 from your PC using the delete programs function in Windows Control Panel. After you delete 4.5, run the DM App Loader. It will recognize that 4.5 is gone and offer to downgrade. Let it, and you're done. Whatever customizations of OS4.2 you had previously employed will still apply, so there's no need to run CrackMem to customize it.

If you deleted OS4.2, then you need to reinstall it. If you still have the download exe for OS4.2, double-click it and reinstall OS4.2, then proceed as above. In this case, you will have to modify the OS to reapply your customizations.

If you uninstalled OS4.2 and deleted the download exe, you'll have to find a carrier that will allow you to download 4.2. Carriers typically don't provide superseded OS versions for download, so you may have a hard time finding it. It's for that reason you should never delete the old OS download from your PC.

Hi, hope someone has some advice for me.. I'll give more info this time..

I have an Orange 8820, its issued through work so Facebook apps etc are disabled from working (any advice on how to get rid of this block much appreciated!!). Its a Blackberry Enterprise Server account.

I downloaded OS 4.5 straight off when i got the Blackberry email (before work jumped in to block), great as it looks much smoother. DON'T have the old OS though as laptop got wiped!

Can't download OS 4,5 direct from Blackberry now as it asks me to confirm my PIN (to check availability..with carrier?), which then states its not yet available and to ask my local IT administrator.

    So...
Where can i get OS 4.5 to use CrackMem app?
Can i disable the App blocks placed by work?
Can i pull a copy of the OS from the handset direct?

** All i'm looking to do is remove Voice Dialling becuase i can't use headphones to listen to music because it keeps setting off VAD!!
(I've disabled it all through settings already)

UPDATE - looks like i have OS 4.5 at last...

If you are a BES user, you can't disable the IT Policy or enable applications that are locked out by it. Nor can you pull a copy of the OS from the device. That's a BlackBerry restriction, not a BES restriction.

If you've gotten 4.5, and all you want to do is delete the VAD code, you don't have to use CrackMem. Reed McLay tells you how to do it manually in the CrackBerry Memory Optimization Procedure that's linked in my sign. CrackMem automates many of his advanced steps, but you can do what you want manually.

CAVEAT: the preceeding assumes your IT policy will allow you to an OS on your phone. Given the other restrictions you listed, that seems unlikely.

CrackMem was originally created by Pete6 to automate the advanced steps in Reed McLay's CrackBerry Memory Optimization Procedure. I recommend new BlackBerry users, regardless of their general computer experience level, start with the MOP. It takes memory optimization step and step and is carefully illustrated with screen shots. When you understand what the MOP is doing, then it will be much easier to use CrackMem. The MOP is an excellent BlackBerry OS tutorial.

CrackMem, by the way, has an excellent help file. Be sure to read it as well.

    hi to all

I don't understand how it will works for this step:

    RENAME DOCUMENTSTOGO alx FILE

Renames the DocumentsToGo.alx file to / from DocumentsToGo.alx and DocumentsToGo.old

If I want to back up docs to go premium before an update what I have to do? it will save the premium code activation?

    thanks
