I'm a brand new BB user (just got a Storm on Saturday) and when doing my research on here before getting it, I saw a lot of people stressing the importance of closing apps (instead of just going to the home screen, leaving the apps running). And I've searched on here, but I didn't come across an answer to this question, so here goes.

Is there a way to close an app with a single Menu->Close? It seems like when do click Menu->Close, it goes back one level, but sometimes, it can take multiple times clicking that to actually exit the app, drilling back up through the levels of screens.

For example, in VZ Navigator (which I'll probably be dropping, but it was transferred over for free from my old phone), if I'm in a navigation, the first Close I hit takes me to the screen to enter the address to navigate to, then one more takes me to the main menu, then another FINALLY exits the app (after I have to go through the extra step of clicking "Yes" I really do want to exit)

Shouldn't Close mean Close? Or is there some setting I can use to make apps close more simply? (for example, let the escape key do what it does and go back up one level, but let Close totally close the app)

I'm afraid there's no easy fix, because this behavior is defined by the application developer. There's no global setting for it.

Most apps can do this, but not all. When you want to fully exit and close an app, press and hold the back arrow button until it's back on the home screen.

I hear you on VZN Navigator, but just wait until you are really in need of it and a couple of clumsy clicks or what don't shut it down and you thank God for the really harsh exit/close sequence. I like it when I have 60 or so miles to go and it hasn't said anything for a while - just clicking the screen lets you know it is still working for you.

Have you really checked out the Traffic monitoring - it is way cool.
