I use my unlocked 8820 in wi-fi mode to download apps & progs at MacDonalds, my library, Panera, Best Western, etc...but it's a ***** typing in passwords/usernames, URLs, email msgs, Forum posts, etc...

Is there a way I can use the 8820 in wi-fi mode as a modem? Go through the 8820 but use the laptop keyboard & screen???
No. Tethering could be done using a BlackBerry connected to a laptop, but you have to use the mobile network (data plan) on the BlackBerry. If you do not have a BlackBerry data plan, tethering cannot be done.
