Yes, Verizon sucks for doing that, but it does work. It works on my bro's VW Storm. You just have to download the correct version. Amaze has a version for Verizon users, that's the one my brother has. Here's the link if you need it:

My brother just swapped his Storm out for the new Tour on VZW, so I'll try to install it on his and see what I can do to help you out. It worked for his Storm I know.

Went to advanced options->Gps-> Gps Services location on, instead of 911 only
and everything worked fine after

Yes, it's made for the Curve 8900 too. You do not need 3G to run it either. I have a Bold but no 3G service in my area and it runs just fine.
