Great great great programm!!!
i've just downloaded MCP and tried it to downgraded to OS.214 (Bold), i just curious if I just want to remove preloaded themes or voicedial do I need to re-install the OS or I can just remove the themes without re-installing the OS?
many Thanx for the program
:)
ps: the preloaded walpaper and music in BOld is it located in the flash memory or is it in the internal storage memory?
edit: sorry, i'm on my phone, didn't read your post correctly. the technical answer to the first part is "no"... you don't have to install an os on the phone to make the changes you mentioned. you would just use the "erase" section of mcp's "java loader" page. same for the preinstalled themes.
once an os is installed on your pc you can manage the modules that will/won't be installed on the phone.
for the most part, these are all cod files. you can see the files by clicking the buttons in the "removed files" section on the mcp os page.
after installing the os to the phone you can use mcp's "java loader" page to add/remove modules (cod files).
you don't have to reinstall the os to make these changes.

Sgt-D,
I should let you know about a situation that occurred this morning.
I was running version 0.9.1.1 and simply was going to take a screen shot. I decided to check the "auto" box on screen capture. Then the program began looping. There was no option for me to exit the program. I attempted to close the program through the task manager, but was not successful. So I did a proper shutdown and restarted the computer.
My computer is running Vista Ultimate x86 SP1, quad core processor, 4GB ram, 512GB hard drive.
My normal start up time to login screen was 7-10 seconds. After I restarted, my start up time slowed down to 70+ seconds to get to the log in screen. Once logged in, all pc operations were normal.
I conducted a normal trouble shooting process, I verified there was no alteration of the settings in msconfig, I even ran a defrag (even though I do this weekly as part of my regular maintenance routine). There was no notable entries in the event log.
I attempted to reboot, and the same condition persists. I bounced this off a fellow vista guru, and he agreed with me that MCP shouldn't be affecting the pre-login boot process. To complete trouble shooting, I uninstalled MCP and rebooted. My boot up time normalized at this time.
Both my counterpart vista gurus and I agreed that MCP should not have had this affect on pre-login boot time. But since uninstalling the program normalized my boot process, I thought I'd share that with you.
If I can assist you with any additional information, please let me know.
that is very peculiar since mcp doesn't add/remove anything from your boot process.
since you uninstalled mcp, have you attempted to reinstall it? and if so, did you try the auto-capture feature again?
i am very curious as to the cause of this behavior. i know that i tested mcp in auto capture (and auto save) down to 1 second and while the pc was virtually unaffected in the performance arena, the phone was almost unusable until i backed off and set the timer to 3 seconds or higher.
please report your results.
hmm, post thought... is user account control disabled?
Thanks for the fast response!
I have not reinstalled it, since I don't know what the cause/effect is.
As far as UAC, definately enabled. But at the point at which the pc is booting, pre-login, even the UAC isn't in play (or shouldn't be). I checked the event logs, and there were no red flags that were notable.
Extremely unusual program/pc behavior. On my exchanges with my vista counterparts, we labeled this a mystery. We are confident a program should not be affecting the pre-boot process, especially one that's not in the startup.
I'm going to put this into the "wierd things that vista does" category. Can't be MCP, really can't be the hardware. The only other variable is the OS.
fair enough.
you have piqued my curiosity though, so if you do reinstall it, please let me know how it works.
i do know that uac wreaks havoc in some areas of mcp. you might need to make sure the mcp folder is under your complete control, and i would test it with uac off first... then possibly see how it does when turned on.
i know for a fact that if uac is enabled, the operating system management page is dysfunctional.

hello...
i've just finished upgrading my bb using MCP and I didnt delete vendor.xml as I was using my ops OS but after the instalation I checked that the vendor.xml file is gone... did the MCP delete the file automatically? or is there settings that I did accidently?
also is there a manual on how to remove programs/module such as vendor themes? if not how do I remove it using the java loader? how do I remove or install an application that has more than one module like docstogo maybe?
Many thanx for any response...
PS: its really a great program compare to the others i think its the most complete all in one utility...
regards
Aden
i'm not sure anymore how i am handling the vendor.xml - at least in the beta version. i think i might be deleting it. i'm not sure if that's a terrible thing or not. i will look at the code tonight. i tried to mimic the way crackmem was handling that file, but i'm sure they hit the same roadblock... you could potentially move the vendor.xml from one os to a wrong os later.
i will handle this differently in the next beta though for sure, i will just rename it to vendor.old during the install, then rename it back to vendor.xml after install -- and crackmem can do it however they see fit.
the help site for mcp does have some information on loading/saving/erasing modules, but realistically it's not too hard. if you open the "load" page, then open the OS folder (use the buttons on the OS management page in mcp (there are small helpful buttons in the "removed files" section))... look for files with words like "theme" or "dimension" or "precision" and once you find them, just drag them into the large edit window of the "load" page. this will put all of the files into a list. once you have all the files in place, click the "load" button. phone will reboot when done. :)
and thanks, this is exactly what i'm trying to do... make it the most complete and best tool out there, but at the same time keeping it dead simple. :)
thanks!
@sgt-d
First off I wanna say that is a great program I love it, kudos :D
Now for my question, I had my bb connected and doing a back up on the dm part and I went back to try out the screen capture and it said that there was no device connected and all I got was a pop up that had java something or another on it. Any idea I'm talking about and/or what I might be doing wrong
thanks! :)
the no device connected problem is probably caused by desktop manager stealing the connection. close dm and try mcp again.
other things that are known to cause problems... if you tell your bb to turn on mass media mode, manually or automatically. mass media mode can cause some problems with the commands.
the popup is probably the "messages" option which is on by default. i might turn that off in future versions. it's just trying to show you what command is being issued.
I tried to close out the dm and it still showed no device connection.
Do you think turning off the mass media prompt might help
I think its great that you are showing what is going on. I don't mind them really, but some people may be a little more picky than I am. Keep up the good work I can't wait to see what you come up with next.
Hi sgd-t...
Thanx for your response..
I've just confirmed that vendor.xml was removed when using MCP.. I didnt know what caused it. but after upgrading its not in c:program files/common files/research in motion/apploader where it supposed to be.. and before upgrading it was there and i didnt delete it..
i remove VAD, silver themes, and all the games. after upgrading I search vendor.xml using search utility in windows and there it was vemdor.xml in removed files folder...
not a problem tho I just thought to let you know... its just that it happen to be my ops OS and this is the first time i use my ops OS, so no worries actually...:):D
i'll always use this prgram again for future OS..
thanx for the great program..
Hi..
I was wondering is it safe to remove all the pre-installed themes in bold? And replaced them with 3rd party themes? I think its not possible in curve but I don't know with bold..
Sorry if my english is not good..
Many thanx for the very usefull and user friendly program.. :-)
Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com
i'm not sure about the bold. i've never even touched one heh.
curve... if you remove all base themes you get a windows 1.0 black and white "look and feel". zen is required for any of the other base themes to work... and all are required just to use one custom theme. sorta stupid.
(install (and load) your custom theme before these steps)
you could easily use mcp (java loader page) to save the base theme from your phone to your desktop, then use mcp again to erase it from the phone. reboot it, see what it does. if it acts up, use mcp to send the base theme back to the phone.
and thank you very much, i'm really trying to make mcp the best it can possibly be. :)
@aden - crackmem moves vendor.xml to the removed files folder. it has no idea which vendor.xml is actually moved, since every newly installed os gets put in the same original folder. so any vendor.xml in the removed files folder may not be the one that came from the os you are dealing with.
i followed this thinking for the current public "stable" release of mcp. in the 0.9.2.0 betas i forked from the way crackmem handled it by simply moving the file out of the way so it wouldn't be seen -- but my methods up through beta 5 aren't perfectly clear, and it didn't seem to work every time either. sometimes you had to switch back and forth between os's to get it to work. in the upcoming beta 6 (and today's dropbox version) if a vendor.xml is found when mcp is started - or when an os is selected - i will rename it to yymmdd-hhmmss-zzz-vendor.old (zzz is milliseconds, 3 places). mcp will not name it back to vendor.xml when it is done.
this new method is the only way to sanely save every vendor.xml file that is ever installed with an os, but there is still no way to determine which vendor.xml came with which os. if you want to manage them you should change their names before using mcp, rename them to something like the name of the os, that would be the best way. there's just no way for me to know which vendor file i'm seeing, only the person that installed them would know.
hope this helps!

I am readin you folks talking about a software program, but all I'm getting from the link is the website of a plastic casing manufacturer. WTF am I doing wrong?
no worries, it will be back soon.
fixed!
:/
Has anyone tried this on a BES setup? In particular, will this let me upgrade my BB OS without losing my BES connection, so that I don't have to call my BES administrator to re-initialize my account?
In a future release, how about remote control of the BB (making my computer's keyboard and monitor a docking station of sorts).
i would love to remote control my blackberry from a computer, but i've never found anything that can do it. :(
