- Beta test for new app "Multi-Click Icons".
This feature gives you eight icons that can be assigned to 4 apps each. The icons change and launch different apps depending on how many times you click.
For example, you can have just one icon for all browsers, and set it so that clicking once launches the BlackBerry browser, double-click launches Bolt, triple-click launches Opera, etc.
Each icon can be set to revert to its original state after a launch, or else show the most-recently-used app assigned to that icon. For example, you could have your browser icon always show the last browser that was launched, or else have it always show the browser that you use most often.
Clicking repeatedly cycles through the apps assigned to the icon until you stop, and then it launches your choice. You can set the reaction time.
This app is for all devices, but particularly for Storm. Multi-Eight icons are enough to launch 32 apps from the "true" homescreen of the Storm, without having to click the "apps" key and scroll or navigate folders. Rather than using the menu and app switcher, you can set one of your convenience keys to snap you quickly to the homescreen, from where you can launch any of 32 apps from the 8 icons.
(Beta-1 now over)
Betas will expire in 3 days unless you get a license key. I do need to give out some keys to test the licensing system (and those will be good for the release also), but first things first, how does the trial work for you and what do you think? Thanks in advanceLast edited by LSphone; 05-31-10 at 08:50 PM.

- Sounds like sweet app. Just finished downloading, install was alright, I'll let you know how it runs after I spend some time messing with it.
I'm on 4.5 with an 8330m btw.

EDIT:
Works pretty good. I've got doubles of some programs though: Opera mini, vlingo, profiles, and setup wizard; I think that's it.
Also, having bbm say bbm rather than net_rim_bb_qm_peer would be good.
It'd also be cool to have a bluetooth toggle option, and a radio toggle option. Also an option to launch the stock media player (on shuffle songs if you have to be more specific in the options).
The icons are a little pixelated, at least brickbreaker is.
It took me a second to get used to what all the apps I had in there were, but once I got used to it, I like it.
I was going to suggest a way to use quicklaunch with it, but I can't figure how that would work, so all good.
Edit 2:
None of the BBM (group chat, group groups list, or net_rim_bb_qm_peer work.
Edit 3:
Lol, I should have just done it all at once. Sorry for all the edits.
An option to reset all would be nice as well.Last edited by SCrid2000; 05-29-10 at 10:08 AM.
05-29-10 09:25 AMLike 0 - This a really nice idea...only problem is I cant access things like BBM, meterberry and a few others, the app list is limited. If you could figure out how to make it so you can access any app you wanted, this would be awesome. I have the hero style theme and it only has 4 main icons. It would be great to have those 4 and cycle to my most used programs from those 4 icons without leaving the homescreen.05-29-10 11:09 AMLike 0
- I just downloaded the beta, and wow...this is a great little app. Really great idea. I am always looking for themes that have mini icons so that I can put as many icons on the homescreen as possible. This makes is so much better. I will let you know if I find anything. So far, for Icon 1 I have Browser, Opera Mini, Bolt and for Icon 2 I have ESPN Mobile, Score Mobile. Both are working flawlessly. It would be nice to have a "reset all" button along with a "reset" for each individual icon.

05-29-10 11:50 AMLike 0 - MeterBerry draws its own icon to provide info. No way to read that. If it doesn't have a 'plain' icon also then it would not be recognized as a 'visible' app and so left off the list. All I could do is force-add it as an exception and provide my own replacement icon, maybe even one showing the same info.
Generally, apps that draw their own icons, including a few of my own, will have to be left out of the multi-click icons. For my own apps I can add an inter-app communication protocol to solve that, and can publish that too but I don't think MeterBerry is going to be modified to support M.C. Icons .
BBM works for me I'll have to look into that. Do you see it twice in the list, 1 with the strange name and 1 with the normal name?
Built-in apps that I didn't provide replacement icons for look 'pixelated' because all that can be accessed is the app's low-resolution black built-in icon; what we usually think of as the default icons are actually part of the default theme, not the apps themselves, and can't be read.
To keep icon-theme size down I did not provide icons for things like Activation, Setup Wizard, and Brickbreaker.Last edited by LSphone; 05-30-10 at 01:42 PM.
05-29-10 01:55 PMLike 0 - Sounds good.
No, I only get the net_rim_bb_qm_peer option, unless bbm is named something other than bbm lol. The net_rim name is the name of the COD file that is bbm (I'm sure you knew that tho). I have the newest bbm 5.0 on my 8330m, maybe that's why? But when I click on it, it doesn't do anything. Which made me sad, cuz I was excitied for that part, especially for
the groups options.
Word to Go (2) won't work either (pdf to go will). Might be because I deleted sheet to go and slideshow to go?
Two other suggestions; I think the first is undoable, but I thought it would nice if possible: have the application text change along with the icon when you click/tap it more than once.
The other is to have the back button cancel launching (once again, if possible).
Neither of those are big deals tho.
This app made me think of another app I tested; I don't remember the app, but it also had customizable icons. Instead of coming with several icons, you downloaded icons as you wanted more.

05-29-10 02:17 PMLike 0 - The app does change the label with the icon, but on earlier OS like 4.5 that doesn't show until the homescreen refreshes after the launch. On 5.0 the text changes as you click, at least it does on my Storm.
I'd love to be able to offer the launch-cancel via Escape but don't know how to do it. What I could do is, after you click through all the icons it could cancel and show you an X so you know to stop clicking. Then it resets quickly and you can try again.Last edited by LSphone; 05-30-10 at 01:43 PM.
05-29-10 02:28 PMLike 0 - That'd be perfect.
Edit:
I bet a lot of the problems I'm having are 4.5 vs 5.0 issues. Camera and video recorder also aren't working.

05-29-10 02:30 PMLike 0 - That's unexpected; Camera and Vidcam work for me on 4.5 and 5.0, and I had to do some extra things to get those to work. Is anyone else having this problem or does it work for you?
They're not working on your 8330/4.5?

I was trying to run the net_rim_bb_camera and net_rim_bb_videorecorder; there's a camera option and a video recorder option, and they both work.
Shouldn't you be partying for veterans day?
It's raining here, I have an excuse for screwing around with my BB.Last edited by SCrid2000; 05-29-10 at 03:36 PM.
05-29-10 03:31 PMLike 0 - I'm going to try to exclude things like that, to avoid confusion.
Apparently, for some reason the camera apps have two entry points each (with icons), one of which works and one of which does not. Over time an exclusion list will be built up that cleans up the selection list so you won't see things like that.
Maybe I'll also figure out how to do a better job detecting what to show or not show automatically, but for now every app in the phone that has a built-in icon is listed, plus several that don't have built-in icons but that we need to see.Last edited by LSphone; 05-30-10 at 01:39 PM.
05-29-10 03:55 PMLike 0 - Yea the camera and video are working for me. I also see double Opera Mini entries. Anyone else seeing this? They both work, but I don't know why there are 2 of them. Hmmm. I've been messing around with this for a while now. I also tried to get the camera with net_bb_....but it wasn't working and I was about to post on here, but SCrid beat me to it! Then I saw the Camera entry and it worked. So far so good!
Edit: I am on 5.0 btw
Edit: One entry I don't see is the native "Clock" app. Any reason this is not showing? Not a big deal...just wondering :PLast edited by RGunturi; 05-29-10 at 04:52 PM.
05-29-10 04:47 PMLike 0 - There are doubles because those apps for some reason have more than one "entry point", and Icons can't distinguish whether that's intended as a second icon for the app to start in a different mode, or just something superfluous. I'll start on an exclusion list for known "doubles", and also filter out all apps that have no better title than "net_rim_*" because they're obviously not meant to be run directly.

- Sounds like MagicIcon.05-29-10 07:02 PMLike 0
- No, actually, MagicIcon lets you change icons but I don't see it multiplexing them so you can assign 4 apps to 1 icon via multi-click, or I wouldn't have written this. Searched around first looking for another icon multiplexing proxy, and unless I'm mistaken there isn't another one out there for BB yet.
I was thinking of Iconify; it doesn't have multi-click, but it lets you download icons as you want them.
BTW, if you have an app set to a multi-click, and you delete that app, it messes up setting multi-click up.05-29-10 07:07 PMLike 0 - No, actually, MagicIcon lets you change icons but I don't see it multiplexing them so you can assign 4 apps to 1 icon via multi-click, or I wouldn't have written this. SCrid2000 was describing a different app, which sounded like MagicIcon to me. Turns out he was thinking of something different.
I'm having some trouble with an Assurion replacement Storm that deletes all mail, apps and Bluetooth connections when I do a battery pull. Seems they stay put if I do a MeterBerry reset first. I'm playing with your app, but the other issue is a little frustrating. Will post findings when I get it straightened out.05-29-10 07:24 PMLike 0 - After playing with it for a few minutes, it's well on its way to becoming a must-have for me.
Here's my suggestion:
Can you make it select the program on tap, then launch the selected program on click? That would let you cycle through the apps assigned to an icon without having to launch. (Great for those of us who are always forgetting where we put things.)05-29-10 07:39 PMLike 0 - amazinglygracelessRetired ModI'm a little lost here. Full disclosure: I am a QuickLaunch user.
How would this be a better option than QL which gives you the ability to create
seemingly limitless shortcuts in one app and also has "multi-click" for both
convenience keys.
I assure you, this question is NOT meant to pit one app against the other. I
simply don't get the point of this (again from a QL user standpoint)05-29-10 08:30 PMLike 0 - After playing with it for a few minutes, it's well on its way to becoming a must-have for me.

The "point of this" firstly is that I simply want multi-click icons because I have so many icons and am tired of scrolling around and going through folders looking for stuff. If I can have 1 icon for all my browsers, 1 for combined calculator, memopad, calendar, and tasks, 1 for CrackBerry, App World, V-CAST, and Handango, etc., that's something I want. I can then find things more easily; I see an app store icon and that's where all my app stores are, do I really need one category of app taking up 4 icon positions when it could take 1? The multi-click also responds to fast clicking, so I can rapidly triple-click the calculator knowing I'll get a calendar and not even look. Cost me about a second in launch time to reduce icon count by 24.
I thought that others also might appreciate the benefit of this even if they never said before, "why can't the icon positions be multiplexed?"05-29-10 09:32 PMLike 0 - This looks very promising! Downloaded and testing now.
I would like to see the native calendar app icon keep its hidden today functionality.
If you can figure out hiq to rotate icons by tapping, that would be HUGE!
Looking good so far!
