I've never used the paid one, but direct works just fine for me.

I have weather eye, bug, and push from Blackberry. I also have a weather channel shortcut in my web links folder. Bottom line, they all have advantages/disadvantages. IMO, no BB weather app really FTW.

But I think weatherbug might be the best that you can get for free right now.

I just use a website with the browser and bookmarked it for whenever I need it just click it, instead of it eating my memory away. I forgot which website since my blackberry is not right here.

I've never heard of any weather apps. I just go to Weather Channel on the BB Browser. I have it bookmarked so it's quick access. It's great!

It may seem like alot of work, but its not because it bookmarked my location so no need to type in where I live. I checked this morning its Weather.com. I dislike when I have too many things on my home screen, it urks my nerve. Plus I'd like to have all the other memory for other things I made need to download.

I second BBWeather. I've tried them all (including yweather, which is second in my mind and hasn't been mentioned yet). Bbweather does the best job of doing what I want - staying simple, rendering the info fast, and getting everything I want (and more). I'd highly recommend doing a search for it and trying it out...and it's free!
