A lot of people like JiveTalk.

There is Instango now which is like JiveTalk but is free.

If you don't need to combine all your IM programs into one you can just download the ones you need at mobile.blackberry.com

I use Nimbuzz on my Pearl to connect to Y!, Gtalk, MSN, Skype. It's free and it works.

I use Instango. Jivetalk is nice, but Instango works quite well and is free.

The problem I have with the blackberry AIM app is that it seems to disconnect too much...

I seem to have disconnection issues with Instango. It's free, so expectations are low.

instango is by far the best, and it's free. I always liked it better than jivetalk.

I like Jivetalk the best but it is not free. I have also found that the BB version of Google talk is also very good and it is free.
