How do I do multiple file selections and move files on a Storm? The keyboard shortcuts says use arrows but there's none on the Storm? I'm not understanding the shortcuts?

hopefully the instructions tell you to use the [SPACE]-key to select the current highlighted file... hitting space more then once makes the multiple selection... I agree, that there "could" be some improvements for the Storm (I own one myself) - but for now I would like to keep the common sources for all devices

Since my personal assumption is, that this touch UI will not life for so long - I just know, that the next BB I personally will get will be one with a real QUERTY keyboard - the touch display is a nice toy - but when it comes to (for my point of view) the most important feature: typing text - it's a pain in the a** (sorry just my 2'cent here) - I do not want to start another "the storm is great/the storm is crap" discussion here...

they can't be deleted cause they are locked by the OS... well that's also reported when you are trying to delete them... the Tour have (like some other devices) special protected files that can't be handled by and 3'rd party application...

    FileScout release of 1.2.0.0

    What's new?
    • 'BBFileScout' is now called just 'FileScout'
The double 'BB' was removed from the application name cause of legal concerns - actually this change requires, that you have to delete your current BBFileScout installation [Options - Advanced Options - Applications] (reboot might be required) before you can install FileScout v1.2.0.0. I am sorry for this inconvenience.
    • New Option: 'Check for Updates' - allows you directly from FileScout to check, if a new Version of the application is available.
    • Renamed 'Stack' to 'vClipboard' in the hope that this is easier to understand for most of the users how copy and move operations can be performed.
    • New "Search for text" function in the integrated text editor (incl. "Find next" function and case sensitive/case insensitive switch)
    • New keyboard shortcut: [SHIFT]+[M] (M)odify Image
    • New Thumbnail Option: 'Do not try to reload broken images' - when you have specified a 'Thumbnail-Store Directory' FileScout can also store the information about broken images - so the next time folders with broken images are opened there will be no warning message for the same files again.
    • If 'Confirm Delete of files & directories' is enabled, and you want to delete multiple files you have a new checkbox in the confirm dialogue: 'Do not ask again for this selection?' - once this is checked, all files of the selection will be deleted without additional confirmation.

    What's fixed?
    • Loading of folders containing more then 1000 files now much faster (again) - progress bar updating fixed

    Installation & Update
You will find the download link (incl. OTA) at the FileScout Homepage

Please note, you have to delete your current BBFileScout installation [Options - Advanced Options - Applications] (reboot might be required) before you can install FileScout v1.2.0.0.

    Fair enough.

Basically what is happening is when I install the program, I see the icon but when I click on it my screen freezes and nothing happens. If I hold down the BB key and switch to another app (or go back to the home screen) it unfreezes.

I cannot get the app to start.

Again, it could be my setup and I am going to wipe the phone and reload .151.

Thanks for taking the time to look at this.

It's always difficult to say what happens on "unofficial/new" OS releases/builds... FileScout register itself as content hander - typically this can cause some issued - normally they disappear when you deinstall all instances of FileScout (& BBFileScout) reboot and then make a fresh installation... but since I do not have a chance to get my hands on this mentioned OS it's just a blind guess!

actually I have read yesterday, that FileScout should not work on the 8220 Flip - I wounder where this information comes from - since I can not confirm this - there is no reason why it should not work on the Flip. The phone simulator (OS 4.6.0.195) works rock solid.

So when there are BlackBerry 8220 Flip users around who have problems with FileScout: Please get in contact with me!

I'm having difficulty getting around a directory that has a large number of files. Is there a 'find' function where it will locate files that start with a certain letter or first 3 letters of a similar filename?

Also is it possible to set properties for selected mulitple files?

after a short while once FileScout is started you have a "search" item in the main menu - then you can type something like AAA* to find all files that start with these 3 chars...

Sorry I do not understand what you mean - you mean automatically multiselect all files by wildcard? - nope - this is not there (yet)

    Ah, I see it now.
Is there a way to limit the search to the current directory? I seem to be getting results from all directories.

What I meant was to select say 5 files and remove the drm read only in their properties. It'll be cool to select by wildcard, though!

No that's not possible in the current release... - I "thought" when you are already know, where the files are you are looking for, then it should be quite a doable task to select them and to preform you operation - but I can understand (now), that when you have many files in a single directory it can get quite tricky...

    FileScout release of 1.3.0.0
The "pay-what-you-want" concept seams to be not understood - the meaning of Donationware seams to be difficult to understand. Since the new domain emacberry.com have been launched (begin of June 2009) FileScout have been downloaded 98.878 times (according to the server log files) - the number of donations since 1'st June 2009 is 321.

This are only 0,00324 donations per download! Even with the very optimistic assumption, that 90% of the downloads are updates of previous versions of FileScout, it's still such a biased proportion, that is going to make me think if Donationware is the right concept.

    What's new?
    • New File Associations Option: "Use the BlackBerry default Browser to open HTML files". In previous versions of FileScout HTML files where always opened with the Media application. With this new Option it's possible to open any HTML files (e.g. from your SDCard) with the default BlackBerry browser application.
    • New Function in TextViewer/Editor: Toggle WordWrap (ON/OFF)
Unfortunately not available for for Storm users
    • New Simple TextViewer/Editor Option: Auto WordWrap (to select the startup behavior of the TextViewer/Editor) - default value is ON
Unfortunately not available on TouchScreen devices
    • New functionality in search popup:
      • Select and deselect multiple files in the search result - Key shortcut: [SPACE]
      • Add single file (or selection of files) to virtual Clipboard [so the file(s) can be copied or moved to any destination once the search dialog is closed] - Key shortcut [C|V]
Please note you can repeat as many searches as you like - each time you add a file (or a selection) to the clipboard the number of files in the clipboard is increasing.
      • Checkbox: Search only in the current directory
    • New Simple TextViewer/Editor Option: FontSize - select between: 'small', 'medium', 'default', 'large' or 'I am an old man' (default: DEFAULT)
    • Options are directly accessible from the TextViewer/Editor
    • TextViewer/Editor loading performance improved
    • TextViewer/Editor: new Menu items 'Goto Start' & 'Goto End'
    • TextEditor: new Menu item 'Switch to ReadOnlyMode' -> this will give you access to all new key shortcuts
    • TextViewer/Editor: new key shortcuts (TextEditor have to be in 'ReadOnly' Mode)
    • New Simple TextViewer/Editor Option: Start Editor in ReadOnlyMode
If you have enabled the TextEditor, then you can specify if a file should be automatically opened in the ReadOnly more first. This allows you instantly to navigate with the new key shortcuts once you are opening a text file.
    • New General Option 'Warn when number of files in one directory exceed': You can select between 500|1000|2000|4000 files or no warning at all [DEFAULT: 2000]
When you open a directory with FileScout it takes some time to read the content - you can select at which content size a waring should be displayed in order to get already a feedback to your open action.
    • New Menu Item 'Show vClipboard Content': Will open a popup that is showing you the current content of the virtual Clipboard.
The virtual Clipboard popup supports the following key shortcuts
    • New Menu Item 'eMail <selection>' (when multiple files are selected)
This function will send all files (no directories) that are multi-selected in the current folder. You can select multiple files by using the [SPACE] key. Please have in mind that the total attachment size might be limited by your provider!
    • New Menu Item 'eMail DIRECTORY-NAME' (when a directory is highlighted)
This new function will send all files (no subdirectories) which are in current selected folder. Please have in mind that the total attachment size might be limited by your provider!
    • New 'File associations' Options: In the past FileScout was registering itself automatically as content handler for the MimeType text/txt for various extensions. Now this is configurable for which file extensions you would like to register FileScout as content handler in the BlackBerry OS. You can select the following extensions: .ini, .log and/or .xml.
Please note, that any change to this setting does only take effect after a full device reboot.

    What's fixed?
    • File list scrolling speed tweaked - this version should give you a slight performance boost compared to previous versions of FileScout ;-)
    • File list will be updated, if 'Create New File' or 'Save as...' is used
    • TextEditor 'Save as...' will check, if destination exist

You find the full changelog (incl. a description of all new key shortcuts at FileScout Changelog

    Installation & Update
You will find the download link (incl. OTA) at the FileScout Homepage

Thanks for the notification about the update.

I have one question. I am just starting to use this program and am trying to organize all my pics. I have made a directory called Wallpaper and want to use File Scout to move all my wallpaper files into that directory. Right now I have to chose Put the file onto the vClipboard then go into the actual directory and paste it there. That is a lot of back and forth between directories. Is there an option to specify to Send to a specific directory? And will there be an option to select multiple files to move at once?

    Ok... that was two questions.

you can add the target (and source) to your "favourites" and then use the [G|H] short cut to open the favourites list

sure - use the [SPACE] key to select a file and proceed to the next...

as storm user (like myself) you have to show the virtual keyboard first to make use of the key short cuts...
