Currently have an unlocked tmobile 8520 running on rogers, without a data plan, and dont plan on getting a data plan anytime soon. My friend's offering me his Google G1 and 100 bucks for my 8520, also unlocked. Should I take it? Why or why not? Thanks

It depends entirely on your usage...why don't you just compare the features of the G1 with that of the 8520, and figure out which phone is more useful to you...

agreed, the g1 can be rooted and custom rom can be installed which is cool. the android market has some cool stuff. bb are stable and as well and have the app world, again its based on what you need in a phone.

You have to have a data plan to use a G1, I used to have one myself, but blackberries are better.

A G1 is completely unuseable without data option in my eyes. Android is more depending on a data connection than the BB.

Thats actually not true, i have a g1 also and i do not have a data plan. You can still use the phone as you would with other phones. The only time you need a plan for g1 is to pass the registration/ activation but i used my friends sim card to do that. And if youre getting a preowned g1 then chances are you dont even need to go through the activation.
