I was wondering if all Multi Chat Client Software used the same amount of battery or if one was better than another. Currently I only use the BB Messenger and find that that uses a fair amount of my battery (only have it open when actually chatting with someone, when done I end conversation and close)
i have BeeJive which I love but it really does drain the battery fast!
I have 4 messengers on beejive and I find my battery does much better than when I had them all running seperately. Odd that you have the opposite result with it.
I only use BeeJive for AIM now, and I leave it on for most of the work day and it has little impact on my battery. BBMessenger has a MUCH bigger battery drain for me, I message 2 people all day long on that and it kills my 8330's battery if I don't take a break from time to time.

You're not really closing BBMessenger. Because you can't. Go to your app switcher. If you have BBMessenger installed, you have BBMessenger running.
As far as battery impact of multi-client apps, I have great luck with Instango, and I love the speed, look and functionality of it as well, especially on the bold with the Precision theme to match the phone's interface. It's fantastic software in my opinion. Blows eBuddy away in terms of speed, looks nicer and costs $20 less than the $20 BeeJive, and has been quite reliable for me. I'm always connected to AIM, YIM, GTalk, and MSN and I get a full day's heavy use out of every battery charge.
I tried WebMessenger, ebuddy, Instango, Palringo, and Yahoo Messenger.
Yahoo Messenger seems to use the least amount of battery for me and that is what I have decided to use.
The other apps either didn't allow Avatars, or didn't notify unless you had sound on, or didn't notify at all, one you had to click the trackball instead of hitting return, and used more battery.
I feel that Yahoo offered the most customization and options for my needs and since my contacts are mostly on either Yahoo or Msn, this covers does both. I also tried Windows Live and didn't like it either.
