So I've done some searching. I'll start by telling you that BerryBuzz and BBalerts are NOT what I want. I just got the trial for BerryBuzz and its limited functionality coupled with functions I'll never use was a big disappointment.

(Do not misunderstand, it is a good program, it just isn't the program *I* need.)

Now there's a lot of interest in an app that does the following:

    Customize LED Color For:
    - Each Profile*
    - Email
    - SMS/MMS
    - PIN
    - IM-Apps
    - Calls
    - Missed Calls
    - Service/Coverage Light

*What people really want is for Joe to have color X and Sally to have color Y. While I'm not sure how easy that might be, I think most people would able to get the same function by setting up a profile to use a certain color and then creating an exception that references that profile, just like setting a custom SMS/MMS tone.

My evidence are the following threads:

    http://forums.crackberry.com/f121/ap...y-buzz-191387/

Now there are at least two threads out there about people who tried to make this app already. One got as far as changing the SMS from Red to Green but then hit a snag. While I will put out there that anyone who wants to make this app would have my $2-4 for it, I am also willing to put out something else:

I will try and make this app. I have extensive knowledge in HTML, as well as some knowledge of C++, Javascript, and PHP. I may not know the ins and outs of everything but I understand coding structure.

A few tutorials and some general advice of how to get started and test an app and I would try and make this. Obviously its not super-easy or it would probably have been made by someone already.

I am simply offering an alternative to whining in empty space. It would only involve LED features. I have no plans to undermine BerryBuzz or BBalerts. For this reason I would keep it free with an offer of donations after it was out of beta and into something stable and usable.

If there are people interested in the idea, or just amused at seeing people like me try something and fail (or maybe succeed! ) Then reply to this.

What exactly didn't you like about berrybuzz it seemed to do everything you wanted minus the contact alerts, although I do agree that BerryBuzz is lacking in certain aspects.

I personally would like the app do be able to change the colour for different apps such as bbm and facebook but I dout thats possible.

PS Props on actually taking time and thinking about what you were going to post before doing so.

If you make the app and it WORKS properly as you listed in your first post,Count me in..Keep the price under $5 and you will sell tons of them..

Berry buzz is good but i also hate that i cant change status lead and bb messenger/aim colors...kind of dumb how only certain things can be changed..

Facebook and blackberry messenger can't be done. I was told that by many people.so if you could find a way,you would be the man.

I will research about programming for the BB. Part of what I don't like about berrybuzz is more that it simply does things ill never use it for. The vibe the reminders and all of that. I use multiple profiles with exceptions for custom SMS, mms, email, call tones, etc. For all my contacts. So I would like to have led option right under the option for what tone I'd like for an event in a given profile.

i'm not sure if this is exactly what you were looking for, but

e-Mobile Alerts: Calls, Emails, SMS and more! : BlackBerry Pearl 8130 : Handango

it lets you assign a person to a color. it wasn't quite what i was looking for, but maybe it's more what you're looking for.

Actually that sounds almost exactly what I want. Now maybe I'm a cheapskate, but I find $22 a little excessive for just assigning LED colors.

Still, a very good find, and I was not aware of its existence. My JDE just finished downloading and the RAD will finish in about five minutes.

I'll see if the RAD will allow me to do this easier first.

Ideally I would have the interface just plug itself into the Profiles->Advanced Options->Edit menu below the sound-file choice.

We'll see how well all this works over the course of the next week. Observations and advice are always appreciated.

Also, at one stage would everyone want to start testing this?

If it would work flawlessly, I'd pay and one time 22 bucks. I really want something to change the network status LED. All the apps offered that claimto do this, either time out, change the flash rate way too high, or just don't work.

Search "Pimp My Mail" in the App Store. It's $6.99.

For everyone who wants to change the LED colors for FB, AIM and other 3rd party apps, this cannot currently be done, technically speaking. Which is why BerryBuzz is limited to what you see now. Its like the iPhone and iPod Touch not being able to run apps in the background...Like Apple, until RIM opens up more of their infrastructure to devs, this is impossible unfortunately. I would like to see your idea turn into reality. Good luck!

So I went to build my first project and it gave me this error:
    Code:
    Building LED_App
    C:\Program Files\Research In Motion\BlackBerry JDE 4.7.0\bin\rapc.exe -quiet import=..\lib\net_rim_api.jar codename=LED_App LED_App.rapc warnkey=0x52424200;0x52525400;0x52435200 "C:\Program Files\Research In Motion\BlackBerry JDE 4.7.0\bin\Color_Note.java"
I/O Error: Cannot run program "javac": CreateProcess error=2, The system cannot find the file specified
    Error while building project
A bit of Googling told me to set my CLASSPATH to that of my JDK2's Bin Folder. So I set it to:
    Code:
    C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.5.0_18\bin
But I still get the error you see above. JDK1.5.0_18 is the only JDK I have. I also have folders for JRE1.5.0_18, JRE1.6.0, JRE1.6.0_07, and JRE6. JDK1.5.0_18 is the only folder that contains a JAVAC file in the bin folder however.

    So what am I missing?

    You have to install j2sdk1.4.2_15

Luckily, nothing tells you so... I'm pretty sure 3rd party apps can't do anything regarding profiles though.

I use the Eclipse plugin myself, so I'm not familiar with that issue. But if it cannot run javac, you probably want to check your PATH, not your CLASSPATH. Check if you can run "javac" from the command line. And you might also want to point your JAVA_HOME at that JDK's directory too, if it is not already set.
