- e-GPS is being promoted on the home page here and looks great! For $5, it seems like a bargain. But, I have found no reviews or product comments from anyone (but the company ). Has anyone tried it? What has been your experience?10-07-09 02:11 PMLike 0
- I just paid the $5 bucks and I'm trying too figure out how to use it. I was successful backing up my contacts via-email, but all I see is a bunch of garbage and it doesnt appear to look like my contacts at all. Another question is, how can I reload the contact information back to my phone if I needed to?
My opinion, not enough information on the instructions. So far I rate this only 2 stars = **10-07-09 02:56 PMLike 0 - It is a nice coincidence...because I had just been looking at "e-gps" and "smart lock & wipe" this morning to see which one I wanted to get. I'm wondering if anyone has actually done a test run to see if the device and card were wiped for either program.
If someone can say definitely yes...I'll buy it!!!10-07-09 03:17 PMLike 0 - Here's a C/P from the DB Group in regards to my question on backing up the contacts and re-instating them back onto the phone. I guess for the $5 one time fee, you can't expect much more.

Hi, Thanks for contacting us.
The contacts get emailed to you in VCard format. Please look a little closer at it. It looks like that because it sends every type of line from each contact, and you probably have some enteries that are empty. But if you look again, it is in a special format where you can see all the info for each contact.
You can't automatically restore them. You would have to manually input them back in. But this is only in the extreme case that your phone is lost or stolen and is unrecoverable.
Thanks, please let us know if you have any other questions.
Felix
The DB Group10-07-09 03:33 PMLike 0 - i just recently put smrtguard on my phone, i like the features and all but the exact location is terrible, it gives like an approximate location, i was looking more for coordinates and maybe mapping it as opposed to mapping it in the wrong spot...disappointing...
hopefully this e-GPS is better, but theres no trial for it which sucks so i guess ill just wait myself and see what people have to say about it10-07-09 03:41 PMLike 0 -
- I tried it today.
GPS not working indoors, even though Google Maps works and the internal GPS among other GPS programs.
The Contact thing does not work. email get hung up on the BB. Everything else working. Oh, I have not tried WIPE yet,
Many emails with tech today (Felix). They will get back to my tomorrow on why its not working. I have tried everything including several re-installs.
VERY frustrated.
I will give them a few days before kindly asking for a refund.Last edited by hurricane.gio; 10-07-09 at 05:19 PM.

- Just bought the app today. I will attempt all features (including wipe) after I get the email to download and will post my findings.10-08-09 05:23 PMLike 0
- had a couple back & forth mails with felix developer of the app. Nice guy tried everything but still couldn't get it to run. The location gig is supposed to send back a link to get a google map of where your phone is but it just didn't happen. I asked for a refund which they are sending me. He sent me a link to their you tube video which shows how to load it but stops short of demonstrating exactly how it works. In mean time it really wears on the battery because it is one of those apps that always run in the background. Can't apparently turn it off.10-08-09 06:00 PMLike 0
- Hello Everyone. This is Felix with The DB Group. Just to clear the air and some questions.
1-The location works, but it has to get a GPS signal from the satellite, so if you are in a basement, or indoors far from a window, you will not get a GPS signal. If you are having issues try going outside. This will give you the EXACT location (address of the phone's location) and thus needs a satellite signal. This is not like Google that will give you a general 2000 meter radius of where your phone may be. It does work indoors, but not in bunkers.
2- Contacts. The email with contacts send them out in VCard format. It looks like this:
BEGIN:VCARD
VERSION:2.1
N;CHARSET=UTF-8;ENCODING=8BIT:;Adam
TEL;TYPE=VOICE,CELL:000-000-0000
X-RIM-TEL-HOME1:UNSET
X-RIM-TEL-WORK1:UNSET
X-RIM-TEL-HOME2:UNSET
X-RIM-TEL-WORK2:UNSET
END:VCARD
As you can see the contact name is Adam, then his cell phone # (i changed it all to 0 obviosly) Then home1, then work1, then home2, then work2, it will also list emails for Adam if I had one in there. Basically it lists all types of phone #s. If you don't have one there it will be shown as UNSET. This will repeat for every contact. This way if you have multiple contact info, you get it all. VCard is the Standard format. There is no way to restore these to the phone. This is for the extreme case that your phone is unrecoverable and you don't want to loose your contacts. This is not meant to be a back up and restore app.
3-Wipe. This will completely wipe the phone and the memory card in the phone. It will even delete the O.S., so the phone won't boot up after a wipe command. To restore the phone you will have to follow these directions:
http://forums.crackberry.com/f3/how-...ckberry-32322/
You will have to "re-flash" it because Desktop Manager won't even recognize the phone when you plug it in. Again this is in the extreme case that your phone is stolen and you don't want a thief walking around with your $600 phone.
So please understand this app is for those cases when your phone is unrecoverable (other then the alert function), not for an easy clear the memory, or back up and restore your stuff. If you are looking for the back up and restore functions, or an easy delete function, THIS APP IS NOT FOR YOU.
Please let me know if you have any questions, issues, or problems and I will address them quickly and efficiently.
Thanks,
Felix
The DB Group10-08-09 06:03 PMLike 0 - How do you turn the alert off once you find the phone? I pressed every button and even closed the gps in e-gps and it kept playing that song.10-08-09 06:15 PMLike 0

- Yet another app that needs a trial version.
My phone has a pretty strict IT Policy set by work. I have finally stopped (mostly) my CrackBB addiction to quickly purchasing apps in hopes that they will work with my Policy.
I liked the idea behind this, but again, need a trial version before I dish out another $$ to see if it will work...or if it is even any good.10-09-09 09:54 AMLike 0
