iSkoot unlikely Skype, it will direct your call thru Skype as it's original, i installed on my BB, no problem, but i prefer the original Skype version if available.
How's current version of iskoot? I loaded it several months ago and it was horrible on memory and made my phone super laggy. You see any of that? I'm running 5.100 right now but had the issues on 4.247.

Iskoot was terrible for me, I had it on my curve, but I had to uninstall it. - never even bothered to load it on my bold.
It would hang forever, and required battery pull to close it.
For calls it rarely connected, and quality was terrible when it did.
Dying to try out a real skype app !

If you want to make Skype-out calls, you can try the Skype in-country subscription. Here in the UK, it costs 2.24 per month and gives me
- A local calling card - the rates are reasonable and unlike the cards you buy in the shops, the credits don't expire or get taxed every day the card is in use
- A local number for overseas residents - My extended family are overseas. The subscription allows me to set up a local number to them to call. For me, it comes through to my mobile though you can have it come through to a landline for free.
- Skype Voicemail - never really used it
iSkoot works ok though it can be quite taxing on your battery, or at least when I tried a few months back it was. Having come from Windows Mobile, I tried all the Skype alternatives as well as the offical client. The official client was the most stable of the lot. Fring would regularly crash and the sound quality could be attrocious.
I'm pretty sure there are legal issues over the original code. The owners of skype sold out to ebay, but they kept the rights to the original code. Ebay was not supposed to develop any new products, or rather could not. They're suing the orignal owners of skype, and the original owners of skype have a counter claim against ebay for violating the terms of the agreement. From what I recall, the case is supposed to go to court in june of 2010. And for those that are interested, skype sold to ebay for 2.6 billion.

A dispute between Skype and Joltid Ltd. Joltid Ltd said Skype had breached license agreements by altering software codes.
In case eBay, Skype's owner loses the right to original software, it may have to lock the company.
It may be noted here that trial has been scheduled for June 2010.
So until June 2010, the IPO is on the back burner.
So eBay has started working on recreating Skype's software, which can be named "Frankenskype" or "Skypenstein" by eBay.
However, the company fears that new software may cost much or become unsuccessful.
I have the Beta and it works really good on my 9000 Bold
I also have it on my 9700 Bold.
Skype just came out with the update.
I will try to post the OTA for my Bold Brothers.
