I was looking at BeeJive since it seems to have good comments on this site. Apparently the client uses BeeJive's servers, that suprised me.

Why can't the account information be stored locally and let the client connect directly to ICQ, Yahoo, etc. and whatever jabber servers you specify?

Is there a messenger app that stores your account info on your phone and goes direct, or are they all collecting your account info and proxying you to the target servers? The latter is not a very good deal because not only do they collect all your account and password info but they also see all your IM traffic. And, if they go out of business your app becomes worthless.
