Despite an hour or so searching, i cannot find an SMS texting app that assigns the user a separate # and uses the data connection..
I wish to use a wifi BB for texting while overseas so to be specific, an app that will send SMS over wifi such as the ios app textnow

any ideas/suggestion?

I've also got Google voice working. You need to Google to findhow to get Google voice in Canada.

Neither work as well as on my iPhone.
