Here's a multiuploader download link if anyone is having trouble with the BB website:

Multiupload.com - upload your files to multiple file hosting sites!

Before anyone asks - though they will certainly ask again and miss this, here are install instructions:

Uninstall any OLD BlackBerry OS versions from your computer if you have them. You can find your installed programs in Windows by going to control panel/programs and features. You're looking for "BlackBerry Device Software".

Install .284 to your computer. This means you double click on the OS.exe file that you downloaded and let Windows install it.

Plug in your phone and use Desktop Manager 6.0 (DM) to make a backup of your device.

    Close DM and go to:

    C:\program files(86)\common files\research in motion\apploader\

From there delete vendor.xml, if it's there, then run loader.exe

Follow the instructions - make sure you look closely at the list of items that have or do not have check marks next to them so you install what you want and don't install what you don't want.

When the popup asks if it should make a backup of your device and restore your 3rd party apps, it should be selected to do it. Do not change it.

Wait about 15-20 minutes for the process to complete and your phone to reboot completely before disconnecting.

Enjoy and let us know how it went. Always remember it takes several battery pulls while you're getting your phone running again before the OS becomes stable. If it seems slow at first just give it some time to do it's thing and when it seems to have caught up, do another battery pull.

Good luck and feel free to PM me if you have any trouble!

Quick question - will I get an update software icon/notice on my Torch screen if I decide to wait at this time?

The only thing i don't like about OS updates is re-registering all the apps. Its such a pain. Hopefully this update can do something about the pathetic battery life on my torch...

so far its VERY solid. Touch screen is much more responsive, and browsing is much MUCH quicker.

My favorites are holding so far, we'll see after a couple hours of use how they do.

Its for sure lighter on the memory as well, over 300mb, where im normally around 280 or so. Connectivity is excellent too, BIS swapping with wifi is SUPER quick and im actually getting service i've never gotten in parts of my house.

    so im impressed... good release.

I am having an issue installing it on the computer. It keeps giving me an error saying that The Desktop Manager is currently running. However; the desktop manager is not running. Anyone else run into this issue. I will try on a different computer when I get home and see.

I've only gained about 3-4MB of memory.

SMS bug is not fixed as I stated.

There's a bug with messages in the notifications screen - they are not selectable and if you tap them with your finger it will go to your calendar.

Any updates on the volume problem that some have been having?

Today I was talking to someone on my handset and all of a sudden they got very quiet, so I had to switch to speaker phone and then back to handset to get normal volume back. Same thing happens with speaker phone, goes quiet, then you have to switch to handset and back to speaker phone to get volume back to normal.

    Will this update resolve anything?

How is the speaker phone volume with this update?

Any help is very much appreciated by anyone who replies that has this new software installed.

    Thanks crackberry heads

I have 2 9800s here and The browser is faster and smoother then .246

Pinch to zoom is much smoother.

I have not had it for long, but on .246 I often had to turn off wi-fi to get pages to load. It would not connect to bis for whatever reason about half the time.

I have not loaded a lot of pages but it has worked flawlessly for me without turning off wi-fi on this release.

Im talking to Rogers technical support online right now. Forget the software release and all that jazz, I juts got them to send me a new torch - I dont think my issue is a software issue, more like a hardware issue IMHO.

Has anyone else has volume issues like Ive described above?

I've noticed the address bar is now consolidated into the title bar. Only 1 line taking up the screen, no second tiny bar with the 'v' arrow to hit if you want to open another tab (if your the bottom of the page).
