I happily received Motion from Amazon yesterday; loaded up everything, very very pleased to use as a perfect upgrade/replacement for my Dtek50 which had suffered a broken screen (but which had no other issues). After a day of use, however, much to my disappointment and frustration, I discovered that SMS was sending very slowly, and group SMS texting and MMS (with pictures) not working at all (ie always in "sending" mode).
I Tried factory reset, etc; had noticed in forums prior discussion of messaging issues with Priv and ATT.
Has anyone else run into this and is there a straightforward fix? Just to be sure, I put SIM back in my old Dtek as well as an iphone 5 that I have as a backup and no problems at all; the problem only in the new Motion. (Also, made sure to turn iMessage off when had SIM in iPhone).
Alas, this was a dealbreaker so I'm sending phone back.
I'm now considering a Key2 but I'm worried that if this is an issue with Blackberry Android and ATT, its a no go.
    Thank you.

Not sure, but don't you have to kill the IMessenger account or remove your number completely? Having no issues with SMS nor with MMS. T-Mo.

I had the same issue with an unlocked Passport on ATT. I think it might have had something to do with it not being an ATT branded device, possibly - but not sure what. I have a silver Key2 now and don't have any SMS or MMS issues on ATT.

Did indeed return the Motion and bought both a Key 1 (ATT branded) and a Key2 (unlocked/Best Buy); I ran into the same issues with both units re MMS (SMS was fine); after working through with AT&T ProTech phone support for over 90 minutes (about ready to give up), lo and behold, we resolved! it turns out that SMS does not require cellular data access to internet but MMS does; and in both cases, the cellular data settings for APN name in both handsets were selected to attnxtgen; created a new APN name (att phone) with the requisite settings and this turned cellular data on and MMS worked like magic. While my instore experience with ATT was extremely disappointing, they were able to point me to phone support who called me at the appointed time and patiently diagnosed the problem. Conclusion: if you are getting a new branded or unlocked phone, make sure to check cellular data APN naming settings! My conundrum now is I have colors reversed --- my Keyone is black (I wanted silver) and Key2 is silver (wanted black)!

yes, did make sure to turn off i Message. However, I have happy to report I have good news, I resolved the issue. After returning Motion, I bought both a keyone (ATT branded) and key2 (Best Buy, unlocked). Both had same problems on ATT. Although ATT store personnel were totally clueless, they scheduled me for a call from ProTech support personnel; at appointed time a tech support guy called, walked patiently through all issues and decided I should be connected to some specialist who could access phone's APN .. to make long story short, after an hour of walking through several different diagnostic trees, narrowed it down to fact that the with the phone's current cellular data APN name setting, cellular data was not turned on (SMS doesn't need, MMS needs). After setting up an alternate APN name (ATT phone, rather than the default attnxtgen APN), everything worked! Kudos to this gentleman (from India). Moral: if you get new phone on ATT, make sure to check cellular data APN setting. Also, I really liked Motion, but now have k1 and k2 and will keep both.

You can't send MMS w/o data on any network... unless you have wifi-calling. On t-mo I send both SMS and MMS over wifi-calling.

I have a new unlocked Motion and have had no problems with texting. Make sure you have a max of 1mb for any messages as att has this limit. I also have used Textra on my last 3 BlackBerry devices with same att sim card with no problems.
